We are currently seeking a Head of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Engineering in our Chief Data & Analytics Office. In this role you will lead a team of data scientists responsible for a portfolio of diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics projects to support data-driven business decision making. Supports the continuous evolution and strategy of Vanguard's data science capabilities.

Core Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage a team of 10-15 data engineers and machine learning engineers for developing moderate to high complexity end-to-end data and model inference pipelines in support of Vanguard's AI/ML modeling work
• Drive excellence and operational strategy in the 4 Ds of data engineering - Data Discovery, Data Model Design, Data Pipeline Development, and Data & Model deployment
• Provide experienced IT technical lead services, including the direction, evaluation, and selection of new technologies while working closely with data scientists and data engineers to build AI and Data products
• Promote risk mitigation in data management and technology, and engage collaborators and internal partners
• Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvement and risk control development
• Comfortable operating on multiple data environments (e.g., multiple cloud and on-prem data environments), integrate with new technologies and coordinate the development of new processes that support teams across the global organization
• Make decisions and resolve issues regarding team resourcing, objectives and data management/operations area to meet business objectives Collaborate and influence all levels of professionals, including managers and senior leaders
• Lead team to develop and achieve objectives and OKR's
• Manage allocation of people and financial resources for Data/Machine Learning Engineering and Management
• Mentor and guide talent development of direct reports and assist in hiring talent
• Partnering with Platform Services organization on operational, monitoring and alert processes

Qualifications:

• Minimum of ten years related work experience in analytical roles. Experience with data wrangling required - Programming skills to access, transform and prepare large scale data for statistical modeling. Experience applying statistical and ML methods required
• Undergraduate degree in Analytics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, Statistics or related analytical field of study or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred.
• Experience with
• data and/or MLE Leadership experience in support of AI/ML model development
• Proven understanding and application of Model Development Life Cycle (MDLC) principles and solutions
• Practical understanding and/or application of Machine Learning models such as regression, boosting, bagging, deep learning
• Demonstrable understand of NLP - preprocessing unstructured data, embeddings (Word2Vec, GloVe, etc)
• Good understanding of ModelOps processes with tools such as GitHub, Sagemaker, Databricks, Domino etc

Future of Work

During the pandemic, we transitioned to a work from home model for the majority of our crew and we continue to interview, hire, and on-board future crew remotely.
