The Systems Engineering Division (SED) provides unmatched experience in systems engineering to the U.S. government and to numerous public and private agencies, universities, nonprofit organizations, consortia, and commercial companies involved in the advanced application of space technology. From systems architecture development to system analysis and optimization, astrodynamics, orbital debris, navigation, failure analysis, mission assurance, cost and schedule assessment, and economic market analysis, SED exploits an incredibly broad array of engineering and business disciplines against a diverse and dynamic portfolio of programs and national challenges.
The Aerospace Corporation is seeking geopositioning system analysts to design and implement modeling, simulation, and analysis capabilities to baseline current and next generation signals intelligence (SIGINT) and geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) architectures. NGSD serves as a center of excellence in the development and advancement of geolocation and signal processing technologies for the national space enterprise. Specific areas of interest include the development, test, and deployment of geopositioning architectures that exploit conventional and innovative principles of time difference of arrival (TDOA), frequency difference of arrival (FDOA), angle of arrival (AOA), time of arrival (TOA), synthetic aperture radar (SAR), and electro-optical imagery.
The Aerospace Corporation is an open environment structured to foster multi-disciplinary relationships and apply the academic and industry expertise of our engineers, subject matter experts and key stakeholders to solve complex problems across a diverse portfolio of space programs.
What you'll be doing:

  • Advise key stakeholders and government customers by performing a range of modeling, simulation, and analysis in department focus areas such as geolocation, signal processing, orbit determination, and trajectory analysis.
  • Conduct research to advance PNT technologies for national security space and civil/commercial space communities.
  • Plan and conduct technical deep dives, trade studies, and assessments in teams with multi-disciplinary technical leaders, Aerospace Program Office personnel, and external customers including defense and civil agencies, such as the U.S. Space Force, the National Reconnaissance Office, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Federal Aviation Administration, National Nuclear Security Administration, and others.
  • Develop and present timely and technically accurate briefings and reports that clearly communicate analysis results and provide recommended solutions, supporting critical decisions in collaboration with technical leads, management, and customers.
  • Expand the department's analysis capabilities by advancing the evolution of analysis tools/workflows and by mentoring/training new analysts
  • Employ a wide range of mathematical and statistical techniques and theories to analyze multiple signal sources, associate signals from a single source collected by more than one receiver, and geolocate the source.
  • Participate in the end-to-end mission data processing development cycle
  • Interacting directly with stakeholders including program office and government customers supporting technical interchange meetings and design reviews and assessing contractor designs and analyses.
  • Travel as necessary to support customer efforts


What you need to be successful (minimum requirements):

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, mathematics, or other related disciplines from an accredited school
  • Three to five years of progressively responsible professional or academic post-graduate engineering/scientific experience, to include
    • Working knowledge of Aerospace customers and industry partners
    • History of timely and impactful delivery of technical products in a business setting
    • Technical writing presentation
    • Independent technical task and/or team leadership
  • Proficiency in one or more of the department's core computer languages (e.g., Fortran, C++, Python, Matlab, etc.)
  • Experience in one or more of the following subjects: modeling and simulation, data analysis, geolocation, orbit determination, orbit prediction, orbit management systems, maneuver reconstruction, mission data processing, formation flying, rendezvous and proximity operations (RPO) signal processing, space threats, resilient systems, advanced PNT technologies, algorithm design, software development, or mathematical modeling.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willing to travel domestically to customer and contractor facilities.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.


How you can stand-out (it would be impressive if you have one or more of these):

  • Graduate degree in engineering, science, mathematics, or other STEM-related discipline from an accredited school
  • Ability to build and foster effective working relationships with customers, contractors, Federally Funded Research & Development Center (FFRDC) and other personnel.
  • Academic or professional experience with successfully developing new capabilities for analysis tools, workflows, or related efforts
  • Academic or professional experience in modern software development, integration, and testing practices
  • Experience interfacing with program office personnel and government customers
  • Additional experience in geolocation topics or satellite navigation, such as estimation theory, covariance analysis, orbital propagation and perturbations, satellite operations, relative navigation, rendezvous and proximity operations, formation flight, or space domain awareness.
  • Experience in applied mathematical topics, such as optimization, statistical estimation, and numerical analysis.
  • Experience in spacecraft or launch operations.
  • Current SSBI with an active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Current SAP access.

Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
