External Investigations Engineer/Data Analyst
Description

On this team, we contribute to that vision by focusing on the safety of our customers and supporting GM's new technologies that contribute to zero emissions and congestion.
As an External Investigations Engineer you will assess and respond to inquiries from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Office of Defects Investigation (ODI). You will be directly accountable for taking direction from the Lead External Investigators to analyze data while conducting investigations including preparing submissions to NHTSA. As a data analyst, you will work closely with our technical analysts with respect to data acquisition and technical analysis in our formal and informal requests from NHTSA ODI. Has the ability to work with limited direction and independently, and make decisions based on general practices and procedures.
You will also be responsible for:
- Take Direction from the Lead External Investigators and fulfill the data requests/analysis
- Conduct investigations including preparing submissions to NHTSA
- Lead Investigator responsible for interfacing with Legal and performing document reviews utilizing the Litigation Support Application (LSA) system in support of Formal Information Requests from NHTSA
- Responsible for the data acquisition and technical analysis in submissions to NHTSA ODI for all formal and informal information requests
- Responsible for supporting the Lead Technical Analysts in "Reading and Coding" responsive documents
- Attend Safety and Compliance Categorization Team (SCCT) and Potential Investigation Review (PIR) meeting as required to coordinate work with EII Team on emerging issues that relate to NHTSA inquires
- You will assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements

Additional Description
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or other STEM degree
- 2 years of post-graduate experience
- Knowledge of field data sources and systems including VOQ, TREAD, CAC/TAC and warranty databases
- Ability to work under a tight, demanding schedule
- Capability to learn and work with PIAR software which the External Investigation team uses for data collection for investigations
- You have the capability to master GM's databases - Advanced SQL, Access, Safety Search, SharePoint, WinZip
- Ability to tackle problems quickly and completely
- Ability to identify tasks which require automation and automate them
- Ability to multi-task and stay organized in a dynamic work environment
Preferred:
- 5+ years post-graduate experience
- Design release experience
- Computer systems experience
