Primary Responsibilities:

  • This role is a leader within Optum Care's CareData Platform Data Integration Team. Optum Care's CareData Platform is a cloud based modern data architecture for data integration underpinning Optum Care's data strategy. CareData Platform allows Optum Care to meet scale, speed, connectivity, and accessibility goals in support of National and Regional initiatives. The technology platform runs on Azure and leverages a variety of critical Enterprise components such as: Snowflake, Kafka, Databricks, Grafana, and more.
  • This role leads a team of highly skilled data engineers as they conduct data analysis of raw source data, document and develop source to target data mappings and implement transformation logic. Data Transformations are applied to ensure a consistent, unified view across data domains to be consumed by downstream data marts and applications.
  • This role leads the design of quality assurance procedures and oversees testing execution
  • This role collaborates with the business, clinicians, and steering committees to develop prioritized roadmaps and engages with vendors to align and influence delivery on product enhancements
  • This role must understand and train others on Value Based Care industry data drivers (e.g., membership, claims, clinical and provider data)
  • This role will help the team deliver to business targets and project/program goals while managing expectations with business stakeholders
  • This role is a consensus builder that brings people and teams together. They will calm tense situations by bringing clarity and organization to the forefront.
  • This role will translate strategy into actions through a thoughtful, organized, and well-planned approach. Will establish measurement criteria and systems to track daily processes, implementation of new initiatives and value creation.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years' experience working in data warehouse, data strategy, data analysis, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years managing large technical teams
  • Experience managing and leading geographically dispersed technical teams
  • Value Based Care industry data domain knowledge (e.g., membership, claims, clinical and provider data)
  • Full understanding of conceptual, logical, physical data modeling, data standardization and stewardship, information integrity and compliance, data quality management.
  • Bachelor's degree or progressive work experience over 7 years in relevant areas


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Data Warehousing/Mining, ETL/EAI/EII, Data cleansing, security and data access technologies, virtualization, and modern data architecture.
  • Full understanding of relational, data vault, and dimensional data models.
  • Familiarity with the product development process
  • Experience working with Agile Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) methodology

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $113,500 to $218,100. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $113,500 to $218,100. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
