Summary of Role

Our Retirement team combines expertise in retirement, actuarial and compliance consulting to support global organizations worldwide in designing, managing, administering and communicating all types of retirement plans. Whether a client has a defined benefit pension or a defined contribution plan, we work with them to determine the right approach to design, funding, investing, governing and employee engagement that fits their specific goals.

The Benefits Advisory and Compliance (BAC) service within Willis Towers Watson's Retirement line of business provides governance, operational, compliance, vendor and defined contribution consulting services for the full array of qualified and non-qualified retirement plans, as well as health and welfare plans. As such, we help clients fulfill their fiduciary obligations and achieve plan effectiveness.

The Role

You will contribute as part of a team to the range of BAC services and projects focusing primarily on Defined Contribution (DC) plans. You will work with all levels of consultants as well as interface with clients to answer questions, resolve issues and complete projects. You will have the opportunity to significantly enhance your knowledge of all aspects of benefit plan compliance, design and operation, employ the most cutting-edge tools and resources and work with some of the world's experts in retirement plan design and management and interact with a national group of BAC resources on project delivery. The projects related to Defined Contribution retirement plan compliance, vendor management, fiduciary management and plan design include:

  • Perform non-discrimination testing
  • Manage preparation of annual Form 5500s
  • Complete necessary plan and financial schedules
  • Become a technical resource to clients and client teams
  • Respond to queries from consultants and clients with respect to plan provisions and resolve/escalate any problems or issues
  • Draft plan amendments and summary plan descriptions, and review employee communications
  • Assist with compliance corrections
  • Build relationships internally and collaborate effectively on cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrate natural ease and effectiveness when dealing with clients/colleagues at all levels
  • Deliver work in accordance to project deadlines
  • Deliver on projects to meet or exceed client expectations
  • Increase efficiency within client teams by identifying ways to improve processes



The Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree required; Advanced degree (JD, MBA) and/or certification (ASPA, CEBS) is a plus but not required
  • Experience in employee benefits, retirement, health and welfare or consulting with a focus on compliance, plan administration, or recordkeeping. Prior experience in professional services firm or legal environment preferred
  • 401(k) plan experience, knowledge of 403(b) and/or defined contribution plans is necessary along with knowledge of IRC, ERISA and other relevant laws and regulations affecting employee benefit plans
  • Well organized and detail oriented
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to ask the right questions and seek help where appropriate
  • Natural ease and effectiveness when dealing with clients/colleagues at all levels
  • Respond to all communications effectively and in a timely manner
  • Flexibility and proven ability to diagnose and resolve issues; strong client service orientation
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work both independently and on client teams who enjoys a fast-paced environment
  • Sense of accountability; owning one's work and taking pride in it
  • Proven experience successfully working on multiple projects and producing quality deliverables on time
