Job Description Summary:
The Data Platform Engineering Team at PayPal is looking for a highly talented, self-driven and proven database engineer to help design, build and support our MySQL datastores across Production and QA environment. This will require building new databases, deploying schema changes to Live/QA systems with zero or minimal disruptions of service, implementing security policies and strive for continuous improvements through automation and creativity. Ideal candidate will have opportunities to work with cutting edge technologies in MySQL and other RDBMS and NoSQL technologies(Postgress, Oracle, Cassandra, MongoDB, Couchbase, & Aerospike), HA solutions using ProxySQL and Orchestrator for both cloud and onPrem solutions in a highly scalable and dynamic environment.

About the role

Requirements

  • Strong real-world experience on managing MySQL databases at scale
  • Knowledge of de-facto standards and best practices for various MySQL flavors (MySQL, MariaDB, Galera, XtraDB etc.)
  • Expert in SQL programming and SQL performance tuning
  • Strong knowledge in Innodb and MyISAM engines
  • Proficient with scripting and automation preferably using Python, Shell scripts and Ansible
  • Good to have experience in other database technologies (Postgress,Oracle, Cassandra, MongoDB or Couchbase)
  • Preferred experience in any of the Cloud solutions in GCP, AWS and other cloud technologies.



Basic Qualifications

10+ years of experience in MySQL Database Administration building and managing highly scalable, highly available, and performant systems.
