Our Opportunity:

Chewy is hiring an experienced and motivated Data Engineer to join our team. As a Data Engineer, you will design, develop, implement, test, document, and operate large-scale, high-volume, high-performance data structures for the major customer-facing systems in Chewy’s Pethealth organization. You will be in charge of designing and developing impactful data capabilities to enhance or create new functionality needed to grow Chewy as well as evaluating new technologies.  You will have the opportunity to be part of a high performing engineering team where we value broad-based technical skills in cloud-based services, databases, security, serverless technologies, and more.

As the member of the Prescription Services team, you will implement data structures using best practices in data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, SQL, Aurora Postgres and DynamoDB technologies. You will be responsible for data integrity, performance, reliability, and regional failover – working with multiple database, cloud and automation technologies. You will collaborate with other data engineers and full-stack java developers to develop the data-tier architecture, do performance tuning, and own database design and development.

We expect you to be proficient with automation and have deep-level knowledge of at least one database technology in our portfolio. We are looking for individuals who are eager to learn and work in fast paced environment.

What you'll do:

• Work as the member of the Pethealth Prescription Platform team
• Participate in system and data tier architecture, performance tuning and help with database development of performance-critical SQL code and data storage configuration management
• Architect and implement data integrity and failover strategies for the Pethealth business
• Collaborate with other data engineers and work with software developers
• Be responsible for meeting SLAs
• Troubleshoot and address data integrity and performance issues in the systems
• Learn additional database platforms and technologies
• Work with Pethealth’s Data Science teams as needed
• Note that this position is to design, implement and run our Pharmacy customer-facing products and work with data science, and not a business intelligence or reporting position.

What you'll need:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Math or equivalent experience
• 3-5 years of hands-on experience and possess deep knowledge in at least two of the following database platforms: Aurora Postgres, SQL Server, Snowflake, DynamoDB, SQL, CDC, ETL
• Understanding of various relational and non-relational database technologies along with their benefits, downsides, and best use-case.
• Ability to perform system monitoring and address various issues in the system
• Ability to do performance tuning and database development
• Proficiency in automation
• Experience working with the databases in public Clouds, preferably AWS.
• Strong analytical skills
• Willingness and commitment to learn other database, automation and Cloud technologies
• Experience in Agile development methodology & Agile development tools
• Great communication and collaboration skills
