Position Purpose:

Database Engineer III plans, develops and implements the organization's databases to be used by data visualization software and other BA tools. Database Engineer III implements and designs the databases and views used by the Informatics team. Monitors the performance, scalability, and security of data sources. Evaluates existing datasource design to determine necessary updates and integration requirements of new design, and to ensure final solutions meet organizational needs.

In addition, a Database Engineer III develops concept designs and templates for dashboards and reports.

Organization:

This position reports to the Business Analytics Manager

Essential Job Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • The primary role of a Database Engineer III is to prepare the data to be used in BA tools by either themselves or other analysts.
  • Design, build and deploy BI solutions
  • Conceptualize dashboard and report design
  • Database Engineer IIIs conduct database queries to analyze the effects and troubleshoot any issues that arise. This is an ongoing part of the development process that occurs regularly throughout a project to pick up on any part of the application that is not working correctly.
  • A key part of an Engineer's role is evaluating and improving existing systems that are in place as well as collaborating with teams within the business to integrate these new systems to streamline workflow and company processes.
  • Database Engineer IIIs assist the SysAdmin team in optimizing servers housing BA applications (Tableau, Power BI, Dundas, etc)
  • Additional duties as assigned

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, MIS, information technology, or similar preferred.
  • Strong background in latest versions of data visualization tools such as Dundas, Tableau, Power BI
  • 3+ years of experience within a Data Visualization Server environment; developing worksheets, dashboards, data extracts, scheduling, performance tuning and stories.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into visual designs for interactive dashboards is required
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into SQL queries required
  • Healthcare experience preferred
  • Experience with administering Data Visualization tools preferred
  • Experience with ETL solutions preferred
  • Experience with SQL, Stored Procedures & writing complex queries required
  • Experience working on Enterprise Data Warehouse environment
  • A keen eye for details and aptitude for working with data
  • Highly accurate and thorough in all tasks

  • Highly organized and able to prioritize tasks
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an analytical mind

General Areas of Accountability:

Must conduct business and personal affairs in a manner that is always a credit to the company. Must maintain a good credit rating while employed with the company.

Machines and Equipment:

The incumbent must be able to effectively operate the current computer system, telephone system, and other office machines such as copier and fax machines.

Physical Activity:

The incumbent must be able to finger, grasp, feel, see, sit, hear, and speak. This position is sedentary in nature with minimal lifting requirements.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The incumbent works in an office environment that is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions such as heat, cold, or extreme noise. Routine periods of being on the phone utilizing a headset, sitting and data keying are required.

Remote Eligibility: This position is full-time remote eligible. Eligibility is determined by Management or Human Resources.
