The Database Administrator (DBA) is an emerging IT professional who is responsible for the performance, integrity, security and troubleshooting of Cook Children's database management systems. The DBA is also responsible for developing, installing and configuring SQL servers. This role provides guidance to developers and/or customers on current technologies and the application of specific standards. The Database Administrator's responsibilities include: monitoring database server performance and troubleshooting issues; applying hot fixes, security updates, and service packs; maintaining database backups and verifying restores; managing security; creating and maintaining database objects; testing failover procedures for high availability; check code before production deployment to assure standards and optimal performance levels are met; Forms productive relationships with customers by listening, clarifying, and responding effectively. Participates on project teams as a key contributor. Responsible for writing fundamental documentation in a clear, concise manner, adhering to standards. Must be available for support by pager or telephone 24 hours per day x 7 days per week.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with three (3) or more years of work experience as a database administrator, database developer, programmer, systems analyst, or systems engineer. OR Seven (7) years equivalent work experience as a database administrator, database developer, programmer, systems analyst, or systems engineer.
  • Degree in computer science, engineering, or information systems preferred.
  • Previous experience in healthcare IT preferred.
  • Experience with database administration on Microsoft SQL Server platforms.
  • Experience writing and optimizing SQL code - reading and understanding an execution plan.
  • Knowledge of capacity planning.
  • Understanding of operating system concepts such as user and group ownership and file permissions, file system/volume group configuration, etc.
  • Knowledge of PowerShell.
  • Ability to create, understand, and follow processes to ensure successful execution of critical maintenance procedures.
  • Familiar with HIPAA and other regulations that impact hospitals and clinics.
  • Able to exercise independent judgment and take action.
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Logical and efficient, with keen attention to detail.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks while under pressure.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.


Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification:

  • One of the following Microsoft or equivalent third-party certifications preferred: MCSA SQL 2016, Azure Database Administrator Associate, Azure Data Engineer Associate.
