Database Administrator, II

Description

Database Administrator II

JOB SUMMARY:

This position will be embedded in several teams who are building and supporting applications for the GAS database systems.

The DBA will work with stakeholders - both in the business and the technology organization, to confirm performance and supportability of the database. They will fulfill tasks described here across multiple database environments. They will enforce standards and best practices at the database level while working with developers. They will not own development of database code and stored procs but will advise on approaches and recommendations for database configurations and custom code changes that might affect the database. Part of this will require assisting developers with their query requests, by gathering, building, and providing examples. This will include checking for proper indexing of the databases. They will trace and capture database metrics, offering recommendations for performance tuning of our queries, probably by running the app and watching the existing queries hitting the database. They will manage and configure the change data capture (CDC) processes, used to audit data within SQL Server. They will also setup and advise the team on database availability groups and mirroring that is required to support high tier applications, and the corresponding reporting processes that will hit the mirrored databases for disaster recovery. They will help define and communicate support plans related to these items. This DBA should be familiar with project management methodologies.

They will physically assist with setting up and coordinating our parallel system cutover plans, disaster recovery plans, and enterprise tiering requirements. The DBA will review all the SQL hitting the database, especially complex SQL generated by Entity Framework. The candidate will work closely with the lead DBA to highlight risk areas where database code may need to be adjusted due to complexity and could cause difficult future support situations. This DBA should be well experienced and familiar with enterprise systems supporting both OLTP and OLAP applications and tools.
