Data Support Engineer II at Chewy (Miami, FL)
Our Opportunity:
Chewy is looking for a Data Support Engineer II to join our IT Data Engineering Team. The ideal candidate will be a well rounded technologist with a passion for building and supporting innovative business solutions with big data technologies. Experience delivering big data solutions – from system setup to development to business solution delivery – is critical. Programming experience is also paramount. Big data technologies are constantly evolving. The Data Operations Engineer should be keeping up with the latest developments and should be able to connect technical capability with business need.
What you'll do:
- Create a great end-to-end experience for data users, vendors, and customers
- Understand user pain points and develop a strategy for resolution
- Create and maintain internal documentation and runbooks for other support engineers to follow
- Engage in user support channels for questions and issues raised by data users
- Conduct office hours to help resolve issues
- Handle and coordinate maintenances and upgrades for data platforms and other integrated systems
- Provide technical support through investigation, analysis, working with source systems and users
- Communicate technical feature requests
- Be the point of contact and SME for our offshore data operations team
- Implement data quality test cases and monitoring techniques
- Participate in technical decisions and collaborate with talented peers
- Review code, implementations and give meaningful feedback that helps others build better solutions
What you'll need:
- SQL expertise and the ability to work with different database types. Vertica, Snowflake, Postgres, SQL Server, and/or others as required
- 5+ years of experience with detailed knowledge of data warehouse technical architectures, infrastructure components, ETL/ ELT and reporting/analytic tools
- Experience using cloud services (AWS or Azure) using AWS S3, EC2, ECS, Kinesis, DynamoDB, Lambda, etc or equivalent services
- 5+ years of experience integrating data between operational databases using data integration tools like Informatica, CloverDX, Datastage, Talend, Pentaho Data Integrator, SSIS, Spark, Flink or similar
- Expert-level knowledge of data integration and familiarity with common data integration challenges like converting data types, handling errors, and translating between different technology stacks
- Exceptional written and verbal communication
- 5+ years of hands-on experience developing and supporting scalable, high performing and fault-tolerant applications for large enterprises
- 5+ years of experience writing software in any of the following programming languages (Python or Java)
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment and be comfortable being accountable for work products
- Hands-on experience delivering high-performance distributed systems in public cloud environments
- Experience performing analytics to solve complex business problems
- Ability to identify issues, impact assessment and work with appropriate teams on implementing solutions
- BS in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or Information Technology
Bonus:
- Experience with business intelligence platforms (e.g. Tableau, etc.)
- Background in e-commerce
- Java or Scala experience is a plus
- ServiceNow experience is a plus
- Experience with statistical methods and data science
