Your Responsibilities
As a Data Scientist for John Deere Seeding & Tillage Equipment located in Moline, IL, Des Moines, IA, or Chicago, IL, you will be responsible for using machine telematics and other relevant machine data sources to advance the machine health analytics capabilities for the global Seeding & Tillage Product Support organization. The role will require you to partner with stakeholders inside and outside of Product Support to identify opportunities and requirements for machine health data and be an advocate for machine health data in support of the "Design for Data" and machine uptime initiatives.
In addition, you will:
- Perform data analysis on complex data for John Deere machine systems (implements and tractors) coming from multiple sources like telematics (diagnostic trouble codes and machine performance measures), warranty, Emerging Issue Detection (EID), and Dealer Technical Assistance Center (DTAC).
- Work with the Data Catalyst to develop and author machine Expert Alerts for connected machines and collaborate with cross-functional teams to generate ideas.
- Create & maintain reports and visualizations that communicate derived insights using Tableau.
- Use statistical techniques and advanced data processing techniques and practices to establish efficient ways for data querying and pattern recognition.
- Participate in Enterprise Communities of Practice for Machine Health teams, provide project proposals, and present projects to leadership at various levels.
- Stay abreast of the latest analytical techniques and i dentify opportunities to define and implement new concepts for value creation using analytics.
What Skills You Need
- Demonstrated proficiency in at least one statistical programming language (R, Python, and/or SQL)
- 2+ years of experience in Data Science, Data Engineering, and/or, Advanced statistical analysis principles and methodologies
- 2+ years of experience applying advanced analytics techniques to large data sets to generate insights and/or solve vehicle related problems
- 2+ years of experience with data reporting and visualization using Tableau, PowerBI, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to influence without authority while leading and coaching other to achieve project timelines
- Proven strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills and experience working with cross functional teams
- Experience communicating complex, technical information to a non-technical audience
What Makes You Stand Out
- Experience developing algorithms and predictive models to solve business issues
- Experience with analytics / big data platforms and/or technologies such as AWS, Databricks, Spark
- Experience working with Product Support Data (telematics, warranty, DTAC, ELIPS data, reliability, and Expert Alerts)
- Experience in project execution, process improvement, working effectively with diverse global talent and cross functional teams
- Experience diagnosing electrical and hydraulic systems on either on-road or off-road equipment
- Experience with the design, test, or product support of seeding & tillage equipment and/or tractors
Education
Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:
- Four-year degree with a quantitative field (e.g., statistics, data science, mathematics, economics, computer science) or an engineering field (Mechanical, Computer) with minimum 2 years of experience required.
