The Opportunity:

Chewy is looking for a Senior Data Scientist, Customer Insights to join our Merchandising Analytics Team. In this role, you will be directly responsible for delivering customer-focused analyses and recommendations using both descriptive and predictive analytics techniques. The Sr Data Scientist will work on large-scale data sets with intensive hands-on code development. This role requires addressing business problems and questions using statistical and machine learning techniques to achieve business goals and KPI's. In addition, the role requires close partnering with business teams in articulating the research methodologies and results. The role also requires collaboration with engineering teams in integrating and deploying machine learning models to deliver amazing user experiences.  As a member of the customer insights team, you will be responsible for surfacing strategic insights on customer behavior (engagement, retention, product-mix), customer needs (pricing, product, convenience, experience, etc.), and existing/new propositions (loyalty programs, sales campaigns, discounted offers, etc.) across various segments and marketing channels.

The ideal candidate has proven experience delivering high-quality and insightful analyses with superior analytical, technical, and financial acumen. The ideal candidate excels at both Thinking Big and Operating at Depth, demonstrating exemplary skills analyzing large data sets and turning analyses into clear and actionable insights.


What You will Do:

  • Develop best-in-class measurement frameworks for evaluating consumer trends, customer cohorts, and impact of marketing strategies on customer lifetime value
  • Use predictive modeling to increase and optimize customer experiences, revenue generation, and other business outcomes
  • Develop and utilize A/B testing framework to test model quality and impact on business metrics
  • Coordinate with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes
  • Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy
  • Analyze and summarize the results of advanced analytics outputs to clearly describe past performance and predict future consumer trends in both verbal and written form


What you will Need:

  • Experience building and deploying predictive models using ML technologies to drive business impact or solve business problems
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques that are used in model development and measurement.
  • Proven experience delivering customer-focused data visualizations and translating complex data into actionable insights and recommendations
  • Strong understanding of Ecommerce, retail marketing, and customer development strategies
  • Experience analyzing customer cohorts, demographics, cluster analysis, and segmentation
  • Advanced technical skills using SQL, R, Python, or other programming languages
  • Proficiency in forecasting techniques using time-series data and algorithms such as Prophet
  • Proven experience delivering results in ambiguous and resource constrained environments 
  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Math, Statistics or a related degree with analytics and quantitative emphasis; MBA or Masters in Analytics preferred 
  • Minimum 6 years delivering analytics tools and insights in an ecommerce or retail setting
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time


Bonus:

  • MBA, Masters in Analytics, or equivalent advanced academic degree
  • Data modeling experience in Marketing, Merchandising, Finance, Retail/Ecommerce
