The Chewy Core Analytics team is looking for an experienced Data Scientist to support our product team(s) in Boston, MA. In this role, you will work closely with the Product, UX, Marketing, Merchandising and Data Engineering teams to: 

  • Develop keen understanding of customer onsite/in-app behavior 
  • Design data modeling processes to create algorithms, supporting strategy focused on customer development
  • Build new analytical products to shape best in class ecommerce analytics solutions
  • Collaborate with product, merchandising and marketing teams to develop deep subject matter expertise for Chewy’s services and products
  • Collaborate with analytics product lead and data engineering team to build analytics tools and product efficiently

We’re looking for a self-professed data geek who cares deeply about the customer experience and thrives in a fast-paced environment. You are comfortable blazing your own path and operating in a highly ambiguous environment. You’ll have the ability to make a significant contribution to Chewy’s success and the satisfaction of directly seeing the results of your work. 

What You’ll Do:

  • Explores, visualizes and interprets large volumes of data with various tools to build solid understanding for what happened and communicate analytical results in business decision making
  • Performs analyses of structured and unstructured data to solve moderately complex business problems
  • Develops, validates and executes algorithms and predictive models to investigate customer behavior and potential problems, detect patterns and recommend solutions
  • Works closely with the data engineering team to develop data structures and pipelines to organize, collect and standardize data
  • Creates and evaluates the data needs of assigned projects and assures the integrity of the data. Explores existing data and recommends improvements in tagging and data collection based on analytical needs
  • Documents projects including business objectives, data gathering and processing, detailed set of result

What You'll Need:

  • Deep experience working with data visualization and wrangling tools
  • Proven ability to perform in-depth analysis, synthesize results, report and present strategies and make recommendations to business and technical audiences
  • Motivated self-starter, comfortable operating in a highly ambiguous environment with little direction 
  • You have a deep understanding of web analytics data collection, experience working with developers to define requirements, implement code & validate data
  • You’re a Python guru. You can wrangle and build models like it is nothing
  • You have deep experience writing and tuning SQL queries and knowledge of relational databases (we’ll quiz you on this!) 
  • Position may require travel

Bonus:

  • Experience with Python
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s or advanced degree in a quantitative, marketing or technical field
