At HouseCalls, the Data Science team is uniquely positioned within their operations team, and their responsibilities overlap between research, development, and production implementation. They are involved in almost every aspect of their projects -- from problem formulation to model deployment, and even reporting after implementation. Many of the responsibilities of an "applied" Data Scientist at HouseCalls extend beyond just the research and model development of a traditional Data Scientist role. Most of their day-to-day work extends into areas like software development, data engineering, and infrastructure administration. The role is ideal for one who has experience related to full-stack development and wants to apply it in a Data Science setting.
Within the broader Data Science team, the Logistic Intelligence team is specifically focused on the Who, When, and Where for HouseCalls' complex network of traveling practitioners performing in-home visits with their members. Their primary functions are Optimizing the experience of both their members and practitioners, automating complex manual tasks, and adding Intelligence with ML, geospatial analytics, and home-grown algorithms.
As a member of the Logistics Intelligence team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing new solutions as well as ongoing production support for their current portfolio of applications. You will also have opportunities to interreact and collaborate with colleagues and the diverse array of project across the entire Data Science team.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support production implementation of models and applications (front end and back end)
  • Ongoing performance monitoring of re-occurring programs and processes
  • Design, develop, and test the technical execution of new strategic initiatives within the constraints of business rules and requirements from stakeholders
  • Develop visual summary of model output for business partners and stakeholders
  • Research the effectiveness of new algorithms and infrastructure with business use cases
  • Analyze the business value of strategic initiatives for leadership
  • Code review of existing programs
  • Technical documentation for new and existing projects
  • Ad Hoc analysis of business performance and investigation of operational issues

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related applied science field (e.g., Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Application Development, Data Engineering, etc.)
  • 2+ years in applied data analytics and programming (e.g., Python, R, SAS, SQL, VBA)
  • 2+ years developing and implementing automated business processes or front-end applications
  • 2+ years managing back-end data to support applications
  • 1+ years with data visualization and business intelligence (e.g., Tableau, R Shiny)
  • Proficiency in converting raw data into actionable information and strategic insight
  • Familiar with Predictive Modelling, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Acumen for problem solving, and the ability to work independently and resourcefully even when there is lack of documentation, fragmented data sources, unstructured requirements, and ambiguity
  • Proven ability to independently research and learn new skills
  • Experience collaborating with stakeholders and determining the needs of end users
  • Experience with software development and data engineering
  • Proficiency in data visualization and business intelligence (e.g., Tableau, R Shiny)
  • Experience developing, documenting, and implementing predictive models, ML models, optimization algorithms, and/or AI solutions
  • Experience with infrastructure administration (e.g., Windows Server, RHEL Server, SQL Server, Tableau Server, Shiny Server)

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary/hourly range for Colorado residents is $66,100 to $118,300. The salary/hourly range for Connecticut/Nevada residents is $72,800 to $129,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
