We are looking for a successful Data Science Manager with experience, or an interest in, the fintech industry. The right candidate will lead a team of Data Scientists and collaborate with Senior Management to analyze and communicate data analytics to facilitate continuous business decision improvements.

Position Summary: The Data Science Manager will cooperate in FlexShopper's highly collaborative, fast-paced startup environment and contribute to the team and the organizations success while taking on the additional responsibility of serving as a respected subject matter expert. This leader is responsible for overseeing the development, maintenance, and interpretation of models and analytics for FlexShopper. The team members duties include data ingestion, variable selection, model training, performance assessment, and monitoring. This is a full-time onsite position which can be based either in our Boca Raton, FL or Atlanta, GA office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Quantitative Modeling:

  • Works directly with various multi-disciplinary areas to identify and analyze potential risks, rewards, and opportunities that exist within Flex Shoppers operating landscape
  • Works with leadership to communicate, create, develop, execute, and maintain predictive and classification models that accurately analyze and represent risk/reward profiles
  • Selects Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) based on given risk drivers and root causes. Establishes benchmarks to generate insights, identify trends and aberrations
  • Accurately documents work products to perform data and risk/reward impact analyses
  • Lead development of statistical and machine learning models to solve business problems and derive actionable business insights


Data Visualization:

  • Works together with leaders and all stakeholders to effectively visualize the data analysis for use by institutional leadership in strategic decision-making
  • Direct data analysts on the creation, development, and maintenance of reports and/or dashboards in a data visualization tool such as PowerBI or Tableau
  • Direct the development and implementation of efficient tools, which enhance Flex Shoppers operational framework


Data Collection and Management:

  • Coordinates with appropriate stakeholders to acquire data and perform required data analyses
  • Direct data analysts to aggregate key metrics across the company, corporate risk services, line of business liaisons, and other risk partners to update risk profile dashboards on a continuous basis
  • Direct data analysts to create new metrics (i.e., descriptions, metric owner, and linkage to risks) and properly archive retired metrics


Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes

  • Supervises and manages the day-to-day performance of a team of Data Scientists and Data Analysts
  • Maintains and grows team by being involved in the recruiting, selection, and training process
  • Ensures team project milestones are set, adhered to, and met in line with company objectives
  • Gives regular feedback and conducts performance management to ensure improvements in data science team development



Education, Experience and Skills:

Education and Experience:

  • Graduate degree in a STEM discipline (especially Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or Statistics) required
  • At least five years financial industry experience and two years management experience preferred


Communication Skills:

  • Creates strong partnerships with team leaders throughout the organization
  • Presents findings to all levels of leadership and has superb communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Answers complex analysis-related questions in a public setting
  • Creates clear documentation of standard operating procedures and best practices
  • Researches and recommends best practices, tools, and methodologies for ongoing improvement
  • Advocates Security, Information Privacy, and Risk Management policies, practices, and procedures


Industry Software/Analytical Skills:

  • Advanced proficiency in analytical and/or statistical software (e.g., SAS, SQL, R, Python)
  • Experience using R or Python for modeling and data analysis preferred
  • Experience in code versioning using GitHub or similar preferred
  • Solid understanding of machine learning, predictive modeling, math, and statistics
