Job Description & Requirements

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for building automated data processes which utilizes internal and external data sources and transformed data for use in BAIE analytical modeling initiatives. The data science engineer will establish data processing logic, prepare data (structured and unstructured), and setup business rules for business analysis and analytical modeling that meets business needs and standardization requirements. The focus is on developing efficient, scalable, and reproducible solutions which utilize machine learning techniques. The data science engineer will also be responsible to collaborate with vendors and IT for data processing source system requirements and taxonomy standardization.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build data processing logic and automate data preparation jobs for use with BAIE analysis and modeling projects.
  • Enable and improve data processing efficiency and functionality while partnering with internal BAIE and external business partners for requirements and ideation.
  • Document and follow data prep guidelines and standards and serve as a subject matter expert for data processing needs for BAIE department.
  • Define and produce deliverables that identify opportunities to shape robust data processes and analytical measurement capabilities that inform and inspire internal stakeholders and decision makers.
  • Engage with internal business partners to gather requirements and collaborate with IT technology data engineers, architects, and data scientists to build a robust analytical data solution.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.



EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Data Science/Statistics (or in a quantitative discipline) required. Related fields of Computer Science/Engineering considered. Master's degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years of experience working with robust analytical models that are critical to business operations in a hands-on role that is responsible for the processing and prepping of the data leveraged by the models.
  • Strong experience in automating data processing jobs with Python.
  • Strong experience in leveraging data processing tools, optimizing queries and advanced SQL scripting (i.e. Postgres and SQL Server)
  • Ability to leverage command line utilities as needed and able to utilize on premise and cloud environments.
  • Experience following best practices, processes and standards related to data processing for advanced analytics purpose (including safe security protocols).
  • Preferred: Understanding of machine learning algorithms and ability to work with data scientists in deployment and maintenance of production level models.
  • Able to resolve complex data processing issues and identify root cause issues to ensure analytical models perform as expected
  • Able to follow appropriate data and data processing security protocols



ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This role is responsible for accurately processing transactional data, park operational variables, external factors, and forward-looking indicators into the defined BAIE data structures/models as well as supporting the UI layers of the advanced analytical solution in partnership with internal and external stakeholders to enhance and automate processes for BAIE initiatives.
