Job Description

We’re looking for a Data Governance Technical Lead to join Procore’s Data Governance Program Office. In this role, you’ll interact and partner closely with various stakeholders across Procore to perform data life cycle monitoring activities, partner and work directly with security, engineering teams, and data stewards to create/formalize governance frameworks that enable data privacy/protection requirements (in motion, in use, and at rest).

As a DG Technical Lead, you will also collaborate to define data management process activities and steps to implement standards that ensure tangible governance configurations for data and tools are adhered to and maintained. If you demonstrate strong leadership, prioritization, and communication skills, and you are a team player with a natural curiosity about the ever-evolving data regulatory and data management landscape —we’d love to hear from you.

This position will report to our Senior Director of Enterprise Data Governance, and have strong partnerships with our GRC, Data Privacy, P&T Security, and Legal teams. This role can work remotely from any U.S location or be based in our headquarters in Carpinteria, CA office. We’re looking for someone to join us immediately.

What you’ll do:

  • Develop, socialize, and implement data governance practices related to data quality measurement, analysis, testing and remediation
  • Ensuring that metadata critical to data governance is captured, accessible, and standardized in a universal metadata model format
  • Facilitate data Domain/Sub Domain definition, ratification, and socialization
  • Build consistent practices and create/ratify common processes for data definition creation (workflows), ratification and storage, data lineage mapping, metadata and master/reference data management, data quality, and “state of governance” reporting
  • Lead data inventory efforts to create a comprehensive and sustained view of all Procore data and where these data reside within organizational systems.
  • Map data policies to data sets; ensure broad socialization of policies with dataset owners/users and facilitate the implementation and enforcement of policies throughout
  • Lead/facilitate the implement of data retention/deletion policies and procedures across data domains
  • Support the data and IT asset categorization efforts, including data lineage mappings, new application classifications and applications in development, ensuring adherence to data policies
  • Assess and identify data access personas relative to data classifications, categorizations, business use justification, etc.
  • Identify, establish, and monitor key data governance & risk metrics
  • Partner with functional DG workgroups to implement governance practices where none exists and refine standards/processes where teams do exist

What we’re looking for:

  • 6+ years of Data Governance, Data Quality and/or Metadata management experience
  • Proficiency with programming language such as SQL, SAS, Python and/or R
  • Strong experience with current data engineering tools such as Snowflake, AWS, dbt, etc.
  • Experience with data management and visualization applications (i.e., Alation, Unity Catalog, OneTrust, Tableau, GitHub)
  • Advanced knowledge of data management practices, data architecture, data life cycle monitoring activities, data quality and data governance tools and artifacts
  • Strong knowledge of data governance practices, business and technology issues related to management of enterprise information assets and approaches related to data protection
  • Experience in design of metrics and measures for monitoring effectiveness of controls for data governance and data risk
  • Project management experience with strong prioritization, organization, and problem-solving skills
