Position Description
The Data Engineer is responsible for developing ETL pipelines for multiple data sets. The Data Engineer works in a collaborative team environment to provide analysis, design, ETL and other database development tasks. The Data Engineer must also have a vision for proper data governance and will assist in developing strategies around improving data management with modern tools.

The Data Engineer will be empowered to explore and develop new skills and expertise.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Complete assigned tasks around development of ETL pipelines, metadata definitions and models, queries and reports, scheduled query jobs
  • Demonstrate the ability to analyze data set to support review of data quality, strong PL-SQL skills, and to create stored procedures, views.
  • Participate in task automation and task conversion with a focus on limiting risk and migrating process form on-premise solutions to cloud solutions
  • With supervision and training, develop a deep understanding of data assets and leverage subject matter expertise to enhance data sets
  • Creation documentation for data elements, ETL design, database development and other areas related to development tasks
  • Timely completion of assignments around automation of file processing as well as all ETL processes within a complex job workflows
  • Ensure quality of development work and participate in peer review processes
  • Ensure clear understanding through training to support compliance with regulatory requirements for data transmission, storage, and data access including documentation, testing, and remediation.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, team leaders and consultants to assist in the execution of business strategies
  • Demonstrate a passion to learn and grow through building expertise in the areas above

Minimum Requirements
3+ year(s) of experience in data analytics, ETL development, experience working with ETL tools, computer science or related field.

Critical Skills
  • Strong understanding of database management systems such as SQL Server, Oracle, Snowflake or other cloud-based solutions
  • Solid experience working on data engineering projects, building data pipelines and strong PL-SQL skills
  • Experience working with ETL tools
  • Experience automating database tasks and related tools
  • Good understanding of CI/CD processes
  • Ability to interface with both technical and business resources
  • Ability to manage and prioritize many diverse technical tasks
  • Self-starter with clear passion for growth

Additional Knowledge & Skills
  • Must be comfortable working with large and/or complex databases
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure a plus.
  • Experience in the healthcare industry is a plus.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, deidentification or other health informatics areas a plus.
  • Experience in python, Report writing, or other programming languages a plus.

Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, similar areas or job experience
