Position in this function may include database architecture, engineering, design, optimization, security, and administration; as well as data modeling, big data development, Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) development, storage engineering, data warehousing, data provisioning and other similar roles.
Responsibilities may include Platform-as-a-Service and Cloud solution with a focus on data stores and associated eco systems. Duties may include management of design services, providing sizing and configuration assistance, ensuring strict data quality, and performing needs assessments. Analyzes current business practices, processes and procedures as well as identifying future business opportunities for leveraging data storage and retrieval system capabilities.
Manages relationships with software and hardware vendors to understand the potential architectural impact of different vendor strategies and data acquisition. May design schemas, write SQL or other data markup scripting and helps to support development of Analytics and Applications that build on top of data. Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with development and architecture teams to properly engineer effective database solutions that ensure reliability, quality, and scalability
  • Analyze of business and application requirements to translate into new or modified database or data capabilities
  • Collaborate and participate in application release planning and implementation
  • Work with onshore and offshore database partners to ensure availability, performance, quality, and Service Level Agreement specifications
  • Write, configure, deploy, and maintain the tools needed to deliver clean data, faster
  • Design and develop data ingestion frameworks, real-time processing solutions, and data processing/transformation frameworks
  • Deploy application code and analytical models using CI/CD tools and techniques
  • Partner with analytics team to understand the current use cases and supply clean and consistent data models
  • Work with engineering teams across the company to improve data tracking
  • Build, deploy and maintain ETL's to pull data out of third-party system
  • Partner with product and operations teams to drive efficiency by automating manual tasks
  • Write, configure, deploy, and maintain the tools needed to deliver clean data, faster

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of combined experience in data engineering, ingestion, normalization, transformation, aggregation, structuring, and ETL/ELT processes to provide quality data and analytics solutions
  • 2+ years of experience in SQL with designing complex data schemas and query performance optimization
  • Thorough understanding of Database architecture testing methodology, including execution of test plans, debugging, and testing scripts and tools
  • Ability to troubleshoot and debug complex technical problems.
  • Familiarity with other databases such as MySQL, MS SQL Server, MongoDB, etc.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to represent complex algorithms in software
  • Solid understanding of database technologies and management systems
  • Solid understanding of data structures and algorithms

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $66,100 to $118,300. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $72,800 to $129,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
