The Data & Metrics team within the Financial Engineering mission builds data products and platforms that influence the future path of the Finance organization and Spotify as a company. You will work on a vast data ecosystem that drives Spotify’s revenue recognition from subscriptions and ads, forecasting algorithms and financial performance measurement and analysis. You will have a direct impact on the future of Spotify’s global business and product decisions!


As a Senior Data Engineer within Data & Metrics, you will be involved in building data platforms at scale to solve business and technical use cases, leading epics and work-streams along the way. We leverage the Google Cloud Platform and technologies such as Big Query, Scala, Scio and Docker. You will work with the data science, product and analytics community to create various insights around financial performance analysis, key metrics creation and monitoring, and forecasting workstreams.

What you will do

  • Closely work with product managers and business partners to come up with innovative ideas and engineering solutions to solve complex financial workflows.
  • Define data models that tie together fragmented data across the entire organization.
  • Design and implement a large scale data ecosystem for all Financial stakeholders using Spotify best practices.
  • Create views and apply transformation logic to fit raw data to different use cases like ML, financial reporting and forecasting.
  • May come across a need to design, implement and maintain ETL pipelines.

Who you are

  • Have a degree in Computer Science or a similar field
  • 4+ years of professional software engineering and programming experience (SQL, Java, C++, Scala, Python)
  • 3+ years of architecture and design (patterns, reliability, scalability, quality) of complex systems
  • Advanced coding skills, experience in distributed systems, functional principles & performance optimization
  • Professional experience working in an agile environment
  • Strong analytical and problem solving ability with advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with data warehouses such as Redshift, Snowflake, or BigQuery
  • Comfortable with tackling very loosely defined problems, especially when working on a team which has autonomy in their day to day decisions
  • Experience in mentoring and leading junior engineers
  • Have performed analysis of large datasets in a cloud based-environment, preferably with an understanding of Google’s Cloud Platform
  • Your primary area is data engineering but you are comfortable with second area such as data presentation, backend engineering or front-end development
  • Comfortable communicating with stakeholders (customers, product managers, C-level management)
