Responsibilities

The Analyst within the Tech Ops Data Analytics team will foster innovation throughout Tech Ops by creating innovative applications and facilitating ground breaking decision science solutions, as well as identifying the need for continuous improvement throughout Tech Ops. This position is responsible to form partnerships with other departments to provide a competitive advantage for Southwest Airlines.

WORK ACTIVITIES/CONTEXT:
• Evaluates opportunities and issues across Tech Ops, as assigned by leadership, to be addressed through innovation and decision sciences, and works with leadership to manage prioritization of those opportunities
• Works on decision sciences projects, working with Tech Ops Customers and leadership to understand contextual problems quickly and define, analyze, and deliver innovative solutions based on business objectives
• Works towards an understanding of decision sciences methodologies and tools within Tech Ops
• Maintains an awareness of Industry standards, best practices, and new software and applications to ensure that Tech Ops is leading edge in those respective areas
• Shows an understanding of the logical and physical design of application systems, and applies that knowledge to projects ensure the design is consistent and well integrated with existing conceptual, logical, and physical application architectures
• Works with leadership to analyze and estimate feasibility, costs, time, and resources needed to develop, and implement application systems for projects with enterprise-wide impact
• Supports team members on various projects
• Shows initiative through pursuit of various development opportunities within the team and across Southwest Airlines
• Works with Team members to create and communicate results from highly complex data analysis and models
• Works with cross-functional teams of Data Scientists, Data Engineers, and Developers to determine the need for modeling, software development or database architecture
• Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Data Analytics
• Must be able to meet any physical ability requirements listed on this description.
• May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders.

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/KNOWLEDGE/WORK STYLE:
• Must be familiar with business intelligence tools such as Alteryx, Tableau, and Quick Base
• Must be knowledgeable in data integration methodologies and tools
• Must be proficient in both inductive and deductive reasoning and problem solving approaches
• Must have an understanding of which analytic method(s) are appropriate for which type of business problem and make recommendations for innovative solutions
• Must have the ability to structure and organize large sets of data and in order to conduct advanced level analysis; Ability to derive patterns and analysis from both structured and unstructured data
• Must be able to lead work on decision science and/or data integration projects including developing and articulating a coherent vision and roadmap to achieve that vision
• Must be proficient at working on decision science and data integration project teams
• Must be proficient at communicating in an engaging way with strong verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences up to and including functional, senior, and executive leaders
• Must be able to work on issues of diverse scope and make sound decisions
• Must be comfortable delivering formal written and verbal communications that represent the Department to various levels of the organization up to Executive Leadership.
• Must be comfortable with ambiguity and achieve productivity in an unstructured environment through thoughtful question-asking, self-structuring, creative ingenuity, and self-management
• Must be able to communicate effectively and provide constructive feedback to leadership and other team members.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines.
• Must be able to travel up to 15% of the time, as determined by leader and project needs.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule as needed to support the operational needs of the Department

• Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by start date to comply with Executive Order 14042, which requires employees of federal contractors to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
