About SubjectWell

SubjectWell is a venture-backed technology startup on an unstoppable mission to disrupt patient recruitment for clinical trials, a $100 billion dollar sector. Clinical trials need millions of qualified patient volunteers, but regularly fall behind schedule because patients are unaware of the benefits of clinical trials or even how to get involved. SubjectWell was founded by two entrepreneurs on their third successful startup finding consumers and matching them with opportunities in digital marketplaces.  SubjectWell is transforming patient recruitment with the creation of the first and only clinical trials marketplace. We broadly educate people on the benefits of research participation and allow interested patients to choose from and be screened against multiple clinical trials in the marketplace. Since 2012, SubjectWell’s high-touch approach has helped over 780 pharmaceutical and biotech companies find qualified patients in over 175 therapeutic areas.

SubjectWell is looking for exceptional people, who are passionate about their field of expertise. Your work will build an innovative healthcare startup that is helping patients access promising care and is speeding the delivery of new medical treatments to the world.

Here is your chance to really make a difference, both in your career and in the lives of millions.

About the Position

This BI Architect position will work collaboratively with other stakeholders in the business to understand our data and reporting needs in order to design and implement a Data Warehouse architecture and model that will support the specific reporting requirements needed to analyze data trends.  The current systems are comprised of relational databases in a MySQL RDS instance in AWS that has a master/read-only replica pair which is used for reporting purposes.  Tableau is used to build reporting off the relational data in the read-only database for use by the business.  This role will need to evaluate the current setup and determine a plan to then build out the subsequent implementation of the Data Warehouse from the ground up using industry-leading technologies.  This will include looking at ways to improve how we store data in our relational schema, what data we to move to the Data Warehouse, how and where we ETL that data, how we store the data once ETL is done and how we design the Warehouse schema to fit our reporting requirements.  The BI Architect will also evaluate data storage trends and the best way to ETL the data from our production relational database to a data warehouse environment.

Responsibilities

  • Define, design, and implement Business Intelligence (BI) and Data Warehouse (DW) strategies for operational, ad-hoc, and other BI related solutions.
  • Assist in the definition, documentation and development of mapping rules for movement of data from disparate data sources and into the various components and subject areas of the BI environment.
  • Create data models including robust data definitions, entity-relationship-attribute models, as well as relational and/or dimensional models.
  • Work closely with a DBA to transition logical models to physical implementation of data structures.

  • Work with the Development team to establish best patterns, practices, and standards as new technology arises.
  • Collaborate with other departments to define development and production infrastructure needs and best practices.

  • Develop comprehensive implementation plans along with delivering the output as defined in the project’s goals and objectives
  • Provide hands-on data modeling (relational and dimensional) for Data Warehouse and overall BI environment.
  • Provide best practices and guidance regarding use of ETL, data modeling (relational and dimensional), and reporting deliverables.
  • A good understanding of the design and development of complex business reports.
  • Design and build complex relational data structures.
  • Work with technical and business users to understand requirements then identify, and design multiple solution options as well as determine and recommend a right-sized approach.
