The Business/Data Analyst is responsible for overseeing the electronic data exchange of data files with our clients, trading partners, vendors, and internal systems. The position will conduct full lifecycle analysis of all relevant processes involved in this data exchange. This analysis will include building requirements documents, process design and complete documentation.
The position will also be responsible ensuring all transactions related to EDI abide by current EDI standards. The Business/Data Analyst is also responsible for ensuring compliance with internal, vendor, and industry standards, while providing guidance to the EDI technical team, identifying EDI methodologies to improve operating processes, maintain and improve contractual obligations (including SLA and timely delivery and processing of EDI related files), and ensure accurate reporting of all EDI activities. Additionally, the position will advise and work with Business Analysts that interface with our clients in order to improve and streamline processes that may have direct effect in the ability to successfully exchange data files (e.g. provider enrollment, claims adjudication, encounter processing). The Business/Data Analyst will be an active participant in the onboarding and support of new and existing clients.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Implement and monitor EDI systems, including data mapping, translation, schema and interfaces. Provide on-going support for these systems
  • Assist with FTP account configuration, including the setup of necessary FTP tools and necessary connections
  • Analyze, design, test, troubleshoot, and maintains data in various formats that include HIPAA standard formats
  • Perform testing and collaborate with EDI developers and trading partners on implementations of new file exchanges and/or file changes
  • Develop and maintain cross walking and validation rules for file exchanges
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation and process flow of all EDI processes
  • Work with business analysts and other team members, participate in the definition of requirements for applications supporting business clients
  • Develop SLAs with internal units, vendors, and trading partners where there are none and ensuring all SLAs are monitored and met
  • Develop audit mechanisms to ensure all EDI-related transactions are performed timely and accurately
  • Develop metrics to demonstrate the efficacy of all EDI-related transaction processing
  • Develop metrics to demonstrate SLA-compliance with all trading partners
  • Maintain an organized repository of documents that is accessible to other departments
  • Interface with internal units, vendors, and trading partners during ongoing operations while reviewing SLA compliance
  • Interface with trading partners, clients, health plans, and state agencies, to ensure our compliance with contractual requirements and when new initiatives are presented
  • Prepare and maintaining project plans for EDI-related initiatives, such as changes to contractual requirements, new implementations, changes to interfaces
  • Identify opportunities for enhancements to our systems and processes
  • Provide operational analysis of EDI-related transaction and SLA compliance to executive management
  • Develop a tracking mechanism that ensures all pending/rejected transactions are handled properly and timely
  • Participate in a "Data Engineering" workgroup to ensure clear communication and visibility of the entire spectrum of content available in inbound files as well as content required for outbound files to allow for better system design
  • Ensure all inbound and outbound processes and thoroughly documented

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3+ years' of proven experience as a Business or Data analyst
  • 1+ years' of experience with SQL and relational databases
  • 1+ years' of Healthcare/Medicaid EDI transaction experience
  • 1+ years' experience with HIPAA transactions
  • Advanced experience with excel and similar products
  • Experience with MS Office Suite, Google Docs, MS Visio or equivalent
  • Solid knowledge of data cleansing and validation against technical specifications

  • Ability to accurately interpret computer-issued error messages and take appropriate action
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret State and Federal laws, rules, and regulations
  • Ability to work well both independently and with others
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks
  • Ability to communicate effectively through clear, concise written documentation and verbal presentations
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with extreme attention to detail under set deadlines

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $54,400 to $97,000. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $60,000 to $106,700. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
