As a key member of the Finance and Reinsurance teams, this position will be responsible for monthly and quarterly life reinsurance reporting including premium billings and claims processing; SQL database management; and data management support for Accounting and Member Firm Compensation Plan (MFCP) administration. This position is also responsible for streamlining and automating reinsurance reporting processes. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in the role of a business analyst, an operations analyst, and a data analyst.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Analyst - Work with reinsurance team to design and implement streamlined processes for reinsurance administration and reporting

  • Design and implement robust processes for reinsurance administration and financial reporting
  • Develop tools for administration and reporting using Excel, Python, and SQL

Operations - Coordinate financial reporting, operations, and reinsurance settlements

  • Collect and format carrier data feeds, perform consistency checks across other data sources, run monthly TAI cycles, prepare reports summarizing/analyzing output, communicate results to management, and recommend action to be taken
  • Perform retention management and billing in the TAI reinsurance administration system - process reinsurance claims, code legal contract terms within TAI system, manage monthly financial reporting deadlines, and support ICP administration teams
  • Manage reinsurance billings and coordinate transactions with the Accounting Team
  • Manage life reinsurance claims by collecting notices and proofs, notify partner counterparties of claims, and request monetary reimbursements
  • Work effectively with internal underwriters to assess available capacity on the placement of new life insurance cases
  • Support internal Reinsurance and Finance Teams with quarterly financial reporting, external audits, and internal controls initiatives
  • Maintain TAI budget forecasting and track expenses
  • Review legal contracts and coordinate terms within TAI system

Data Analyst - Maintain reinsurance systems, databases, and documentation

  • Support the maintenance and operation of the MFCP administration system
  • Assist in the allocation process of the annual ICP by participant and provide analysis for ongoing ICP maintenance
  • Develop and maintain SQL database including management of code changes and regular TAI audits
  • Work with internal M teams and outside consultants on maintaining current TAI system; lead a project to upgrade system
  • Support collaboration by maintaining relevant documentation
  • Work effectively with the actuarial teams on various research projects
  • Cross-train new employees reinsurance reporting and assist in development of projects for summer interns

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or Business; or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of three years of related experience, with a preference for reinsurance administration or Actuarial work
  • Strong computer proficiency including installing software, using command line programs, and scheduling tasks
  • Experience automating repetitive tasks and analyzing data, preferably using Python and SQL
  • Experience with version control systems, preferably Git
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare technical documents and reports
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Member Firms, Carriers and fellow M Team Members
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an aptitude for customer service
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, drive, orientation to goal accomplishment
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to follow through on tasks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare technical documents and reports
  • Previous life insurance or reinsurance systems (TAI) experience preferred, but not required
  • Designations also preferred including FLMI, ARA or ACS

JOB CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT

  • In Portland, Hybrid work environment offering a blend of virtual/work from home and onsite days designed to support flexibility. In Dallas, will be temporarily remote, moving to fully onsite with new building location coming soon.
  • Normal office environment/desk assignment
  • Extensive close work with spreadsheets, databases and data management reports
  • Light/occasional travel

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Portland, OR Base Salary Range: $60,700 - $86,800

Dallas, TX Base Salary Range: $54,500 -$78,150

Salary will be commensurate with relevant experience, knowledge, and skills.

You will also be eligible for an annual incentive plan bonus.
