Job Description

As a Business Analyst, the candidate will plan, design, and implement solutions to achieve defined business goals. The ideal applicants for the open positions are highly motivated in the agile software development lifecycle and work well as part of a diverse development team. In this position, the candidate will be an integral part of the team developing Intermodal Transportation Management and Logistics applications. Additionally, as an employee in the NS Information Technology Department, the successful candidate will design and develop enhancements to critical transportation management and monitoring systems supporting Norfolk Southern's Intermodal initiative. Daily work may additionally involve interactions with software vendors and integration partners. There are also opportunities to serve on standards boards collaborating with partners within the Transportation industry for standards development.
Location
This employment opportunity is based in Norfolk Southern's beautiful new Corporate Headquarters building in Midtown Atlanta located at 650 W. Peachtree St NW, Atlanta, GA 30308. This new building is conveniently located across the street from MARTA's North Avenue Station.
Education
4-yr College Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field
Qualifications & Experience
- Leads team in project scoping, detailed business process requirements gathering, and project blueprint/design activities
- Works with the IT product manager and internal business partners/Product Owner to assess current business and system processes and defines plans for improvement
- Works with the IT product manager and internal business partners/users/Product Owner to interpret and refine business requirements, translation of requirements into design and specifications considering business process, industry trends and best practices
- Assists in project implementation by leading through all phases including requirements, design, testing, hand-off to business partners and go-live support
- Utilizes functional knowledge to develop system solution designs that most effectively support business requirements
- Develops functional specifications and coordinates the testing and integration of development activities, supports and/or leads data mapping or conversion requirements when necessary
- Assesses ongoing project issues and risks, working with management to manage those risks
- Contribute to documentation efforts in support of project work
- Understanding of Agile processes and use of JIRA for issue and project tracking
- Strong written and verbal skills
- Strong interpersonal skills as well as strong teamwork and customer support focus
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
