Job Description
You

As a Business Analyst & Scrum Master at Octo, you will facilitate sprint ceremonies, stakeholder meetings, and serve as the voice of your development team as you ensure their ability to deliver valuable software in a SAFe agile environment. You possess an understanding of Scrum and agile principles and practices and will become a subject matter expert in the product(s) your team supports. You collaborate naturally, are organized and detail-oriented, are a confident communicator, and are a servant leader to your colleagues. You will gather, analyze, and document user needs and requirements and assists technical staff in translating the requirements into systems specifications.

Program Mission

You will be modernizing applications for a high-profile data analytics and GIS program for the Department of Homeland of Security (DHS). This team is charged with maintaining and transforming mission critical applications and is the reporting system of record for asset management, logistics, and sustainability business functions. In addition to geospatial tools, this program relies on business intelligence and data analytics tools.

  • Recent experience working in an Agile development environment
  • Ability to create clearly-worded user stories and process flow diagrams/wireframes, as well as verbally communicate functional requirements clearly to various audiences ranging in technical and business knowledge
  • Perform analysis, review, and estimation of client requests. Prepared and reviewed System Requirements and client documentation.
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, interpersonal, and presentation skills; must be comfortable serving as the voice of the development team/presenting in large virtual meetings
  • Desire to take ownership, be creative with problem solving, and proactively secure the objectives of the team and program mission
  • Responsible for collaborating with product owner and other business stakeholders and engineers to understand the product vision/roadmap and translate into product backlog items
  • Will facilitate Agile ceremonies including demos, retrospectives, planning, backlog refinement, and daily standup meetings
  • Will facilitate estimation and prioritization of product backlog items as needed with technical team and business stakeholders
  • Responsible for assisting in administrative tasks on behalf of the team such as scheduling meetings, providing status reports, briefing materials for senior level leadership, and serving as release manager
  • Will collaborate closely with all team members including developers, customers and SME's to shepherd product backlog items from inception through production deployment.


Desired Skills:

  • Certified Scrum Master certification, or similar
  • Certified SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) certification, or similar
  • Experience in a SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) environment
  • Product Testing and QA support desirable.
  • Customer Demo and Wire Framing experience a plus.
  • Experience with ArcGIS, Tableau, or Power BI dashboard visualization.


Years of Experience: 3+ years' relevant experience working in progressively more responsible relevant roles

Education : Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline - Computer Science, Mathematics, or equivalent technical degree, or the equivalent combination of education, professional training, and work experience.

Location : Washington, DC - Currently fully remote due to COVID-19.

Clearance : U.S. Citizenship required, ability to receive a DHS EOD
