The Big Data Architect is a senior level position responsible for establishing and implementing new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology team. The overall objective of this role is to lead applications systems analysis and programming activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with multiple management teams to ensure appropriate integration of functions to meet goals as well as identify and define necessary system enhancements to deploy new products and process improvements
  • Resolve variety of high impact problems/projects through in-depth evaluation of complex business processes, system processes, and industry standards
  • Provide expertise in area and advanced knowledge of applications programming and ensure application design adheres to the overall architecture blueprint
  • Utilize advanced knowledge of system flow and develop standards for coding, testing, debugging, and implementation
  • Develop comprehensive knowledge of how areas of business, such as architecture and infrastructure, integrate to accomplish business goals
  • Provide in-depth analysis with interpretive thinking to define issues and develop innovative solutions
  • Serve as advisor or coach to mid-level developers and analysts, allocating work as necessary
  • Ability to effectively change design documents to code and explain concepts to less experienced development staff.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
  • Partners with stakeholders to understand any new requirements, and executes through developing the solution necessary by leveraging tools and standards adopted within the organization.
  • Creates code and ensure all features checked into code repository meets coding standards, also may assist in reviewing code from Jr dev team members and help coach to improve quality of output
  • Works with the team providing knowledge and direction to help minimize code defects.
  • Helps the team implement CI/CD and leads the way to improving our speed to market
  • Researches new technologies and creates POCs and helps direct the team towards adoption of new tools and skillsets
  • Takes ownership of complex problems and provides guidance and code that meets business needs and is sustainable and follows best practices as set by the technology industry.
  • Provides application and process documentation and/or contributes to documentation both for both technical and user base.
  • Ensures and maintains changes necessary to support compatibility required by broader IT initiatives.
  • Ensure the deployment of appropriate application security measures as required by Info Security.
  • Assists in creating Application and Business Recovery documentation/procedures.
  • Ensuring the applications are compatible with the larger Citi technology releases and recommends path to upgrades and participates in upgrading the application when software components become End of Life



Qualifications:

  • 6-10 years of relevant experience in Apps Development or systems analysis role
  • Extensive experience system analysis and in programming of software applications
  • Experience with Hadoop ecosystem (preferably Cloudera) - 3+ years
  • Hands on experience with HDFS, Hive, Pig, Sqoop and NoSQL (preferably MongoDB).
  • Experience writing complex Python scripts for data manipulation and using libraries such as Pandas for data manipulation.
  • Experience with Spark and other ETL tools for Big Data (preferably Talend)
  • Knowledge of data modeling and data warehouse development
  • RDBMS Database Development experience - Advanced T-SQL or PL/SQL - 5+ years
  • Microsoft SQL Server v2014 and above.
  • Knowledge of Tableau and other reporting tools.
  • Ability to work with extremely large data sources (20+GB daily flat files) from multiple platforms such as: mainframe, SQL Server, Oracle, Teradata.
  • Experience with Connectivity Tools (Connect Direct, SSH Tectia)
  • Experience with Enterprise scheduling tools (Autosys, etc)
  • Demonstrated understanding of SDLC (e.g. Waterfall, Agile, etc.) and industry best practices



Education:

  • Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience
  • Master's degree preferred
