Data Science and Analytics plays a key role in the Core Data and Analytics (CDA) organization. We leverage data to provide key insights, business intelligence and data science products that advance NM's strategic priorities.
Role and Responsibilities :
As Assistant Director (Data Science ) you will working with the Planning Experience Data Science and Analytics team that supports the Planning Experience (PX) Product team. The goal of the PX product team is to deliver a differentiated comprehensive planning experience that continually helps our clients take action to meet their goals and achieve better financial security outcomes throughout their lives and for the next generation, through a unique integrated approach and trusted advisor relationship.. Our successful candidate will be able to apply and integrate advanced statistical, mathematical, data mining, predictive modeling, and business analysis to discover and identify new insights. You will advance the work by helping to turn those insights into actionable outcomes. Through team exposure and interaction with business clients, you will be able to influence others by telling a story through data. Be prepared to visualize recommendations for forecasts, metrics, and complex data sets. You will share best practices with peers through coaching and mentoring around core methodologies, patterns, standards and processes.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to :
- Applies and integrates advanced statistical, mathematical, data mining, predictive modeling and business analysis skills and techniques to identify data driven opportunities and outcomes, and provide the tracking and measurement of results.
- Creates and is accountable for high quality, value driven work that drives business outcomes; places the user in the center of decision making; and collaborates with team for speed, agility and innovation in work.
- Present findings in a professional manner to leaders in the organization
- Lead data scientists, analysts, and engineers to apply and integrate advanced statistical, mathematical, data mining, predictive modeling and business analysis skills and techniques.
- Provides leadership and direction to analytics teams on quantitative and qualitative data analysis and communication of findings/recommendations to decision-makers in order to drive business decisions and address business questions.
- Accountable for the performance and results of team
- Creates structure and clarity in ambiguous situations to drive team priorities
- Pro-active in defining analytical priorities
- Summarizes analysis into user-friendly deliverables by translating detailed data into business-appropriate communication and recommendations.
- Mentors, guides and coaches team members within their division for job performance as well as technical and leadership growth.
- Recruits, hires and onboards talent, ensuring the right mix of talent within the team that is excited to drive outcomes.
- Partner with other teams across the enterprise to ensure aligned outcomes in matrixed environment.
- Applies new points of view, creative problem solving, and inter-departmental connections to improve enterprise analytical capabilities.
- Monitor team performance and results through quantitative and qualitative measures of value, outcome, velocity, engagement, and satisfaction.
- Furthers an environment of continuous learning and intellectual curiosity.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, MIS, math, statistics, business or related field. Master's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Econometrics or related field. advanced degrees, such as MS or PhD in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field is a big plus
- 5+ years progressively responsible experience with a consistent track record of leveraging analytics to drive significant business impact or to develop data/algorithm-based products.
- Demonstrated experience in creating data driven solutions in big data environments.
- 3+ years of experience in formally leading analytics team members and accountable for data science delivery of team
- Expertise in one or more development or advanced analytical tools such as R, SAS, Python
- Expert level knowledge of advanced analytical model development and construction
- Proven track record to establish rapport, negotiate, gain the confidence and work successfully with cross functional stakeholders across the company.
- Proven ability to lead decision making process through idea sharing and consensus building.
- Proven ability to create analytical framework and follow through with analytical solutions that drive useful solutions. Must have ability to exercise judgment and discretion when presenting and explaining recommendations to field and home office leaders.
- Encourage innovation by exploring new experimentation methods and statistical techniques that could sharpen or speed up our product decision-making processes
- Develop and deploy testing hypotheses and analyze test results, to ensure data quality, consistency, repeatability, and accuracy of insights Ability to tell business story with data.
- Experience in coaching and mentoring staff members required.
- Proven management skills including negotiating, leadership, delegation, planning and organization.
- Proven track record in meeting aggressive deadlines.
- Proficiency in cloud environments like Azure, AWS, or GCP including model deployment preferred
- Passion for problem solving, research, quantitative analysis, and analytical working techniques
- Very organized with high attention to details
- Excellent time and project management skills, with the ability to run detail work and communicate project status effectively to all levels
This job is not covered by the existing Collective Bargaining Agreement.
