The Personalization team makes deciding what to play next easier and more enjoyable for every listener. From Blend to Discover Weekly, we’re behind some of Spotify’s most-loved features. We built them by understanding the world of music and podcasts better than anyone else. Join us and you’ll keep millions of users listening by making great recommendations to each and every one of them. We ask that our team members be physically located in Central European time or Eastern Standard/Daylight time zones for the purposes of our collaboration hours.

We’re looking for a Senior Analytics Engineer with a track record of supplying high quality analytical solutions for Data Science teams. You will lead the ongoing development of an analysis-first data ecosystem for the Personalization R&D organization at Spotify. In collaboration with a team of Data Scientists, Business Intelligence Analysts, and User Researchers, you will help guide decision making and strategy for partners across the company.

The Senior Analytics Engineer will work with Data Scientists, Business Intelligence Analysts, Data Engineers, and other Analytics Engineers to craft an efficient and accurate analytics data suite that empowers end data users to efficiently answer their own questions. This will involve defining, testing, deploying, maintaining and documenting data pipelines, with an emphasis on the reproducibility and consistency of analytical results between related data sets and workflows.

A successful candidate will have experience working collaboratively to design and build data ecosystems that enable sophisticated analyses. They'll have strong communication skills, think in terms of solutions instead of tools, and be able to explain sophisticated systems to technical and non-technical audiences with equal clarity.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead the development of the metrics and analytics data layer of Spotify’s personalization organization. This will involve building long-term and robust solutions sourced from a large and diverse collection of datasets to power metrics directly consumed by the organization’s leadership.
  • Work closely with our team of Data Scientists to craft data structures and pipelines, which will empower research and analysis around Spotify’s personalized recommendations.
  • Engineer novel datasets and features, and improve existing ones, with a focus on enabling the flexible analysis of the dynamics of content consumption on our platform, while ensuring high data quality.
  • Work with the engineering team to implement new ETL pipelines, and data infrastructure improvements, as needed.
  • Build and guide reporting know-how to ensure data and key metric standardization across the larger business unit.
  • Mentor junior analytics engineers and work closely with tech leads to improve Analytics Engineering as a practice at Spotify

Who You Are:

  • At least 6+ years of experience in a similar role building the infrastructure to enable the analysis of large scale data, using both SQL and Python, in a professional setting.
  • Proven track record of supplying analytics solutions for existing teams, with ability to take open-ended goals and scope them into defined and impactful objectives.
  • Significant experience in designing ETL pipelines, architecture, and DAG data dependencies for large and complex datasets.
  • Strong proficiency with SQL dialects on distributed or data lake style systems (e.g., Presto, BigQuery, Spark/Hive SQL, etc), including SQL based experience in nested data structure manipulation, windowing functions, query optimization, data partitioning techniques, etc. Knowledge of Google BigQuery optimization is a plus.
  • Additional skills as a plus: Experience with Data Build Tool (DBT) or general knowledge of Jinja templating in Python. Hands-on experience with cloud provider integration and automation via CLIs and APIs.

Where You'll Be:

  • We are a distributed workforce enabling our band members to find a work mode that is best for them!
  • Where in the world? For this role, it can be within the Americas region in which we have a work location and is within working hours.
  • Working hours? We operate within the Eastern Standard time zone for collaboration and ask that all be located that time zone.
  • Prefer an office to work from home instead? Not a problem! We have plenty of options for your working preferences. Find more information about our Work From Anywhere options here.
