Actuarial Sr Consultant (P&C) - Reserving
The Property & Casualty (P&C) Reserving department works collaboratively with our internal and external customers to deliver in all aspects of data, reporting, and analytics. Under minimal supervision, the Actuarial Senior Consultant develops and standardizes management information reports to perform analysis identifying sources of reporting trends and data quality issues that assists management with making business decisions and formulating business strategy. Demonstrates deep knowledge of statistical and financial reporting processes and procedures. Researches and assists in resolutions and reconciles information with financial results where appropriate. Investigates data anomalies, segment reporting issues, and regulatory reporting issues to ensure accurate and timely distribution of reports and regulatory submissions. Tests, documents, and reviews completed reports to ensure proper data and analytics standards and procedures are met. Acts as team leader with informal daily management of the team.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
- Assist in enterprise initiatives for data structures and visualizations to facilitate consistency and efficiency in extracting and analyzing data across the P&C Reserving department.
- Serve as an expert and a change champion on modern cloud-based technologies for the P&C Reserving department.
- Ensures data integrity by developing and executing necessary processes and controls around the flow of data.
- Analyze data for reasonableness and accuracy, determining causes of inaccuracies and proposing solutions for improved data capture and data quality.
- Support enterprise initiatives through data analytics by partnering with business leaders in identifying opportunities to build and analyze metrics through data visualizations.
- Innovate and improve efficiency of managing data to allow for greater speed and accuracy of producing analyses, metrics and insights.
- Collaborates with management, technical staff and subject matter advisors to understand business needs/issues, troubleshoot problems, conduct root cause analysis and develop cost effective resolutions for data anomalies
- Verifies accuracy of table changes and data transformation processes. Test changes prior to deployment as appropriate.
- Produces highly technical reports and communicates with other analytical staff and management including presentations to senior management.
- Manages project teams, vendor relationships, and may be responsible for special projects and presentations.
- Owns delivery of key items, including but not limited to the Statement of Actuarial Opinion, reserve reviews, and other ad-hoc monitoring and/or analytical reports to influence management decisions.
- Leads and provides guidance to less experienced team members and may lead and/or participate in special projects.
- Stays up to date in functional area of expertise, on industry trends and developments, and assures knowledge transfer within the organization.
May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of core functions of an insurance company, general insurance, actuarial and statistical concepts.
- Data analytics experience with strong SQL skills and proficiency in data visualization tools. Knowledge of applications similar to Alteryx, Tableau, Looker, Big Query, ThoughtSpot and other business related software a plus.
- Advanced actuarial technical expertise and product specific knowledge.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA's internal and external business partners.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to effectively resolve complex situations and issues.
- Solid project management, organization, and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple projects effectively and lead teams.

- Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software systems, including processing systems and applications.
Education & Experience
1. Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent.
2. Typically a minimum of seven years of related work experience.
3. Typically has their Associate accreditation (ACAS), and may be working towards Fellowship; may include those that have attained their FCAS.
