Data Manager
We are seeking a Data Manager to join our team at Marsh. This role will be based in Mexico City. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office. As a Data Manager at Marsh, you will design and run data governance, ensure data quality, enable business teams with analytics and self-service, and translate business needs into data solutions. This is a hands-on manager role combining strategic ownership, people leadership, technical understanding, and strong business partnering.
We will count on you to:
- Define and maintain a practical data strategy aligned to business objectives (reporting, analytics, risk, product, client insights).
- Act as the data owner / custodian for assigned domains and lead cross-functional data initiatives.
- Build and run data governance processes: data cataloging, lineage, classification, retention, and access policies.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and local/regional data privacy and security regulations.
- Define data quality metrics and SLAs; run continuous monitoring and remediation programs.
- Implement master data management practices to ensure consistent master records across systems.
- Partner with engineering and IT to design scalable ETL/ELT pipelines, data models, and storage solutions (lakehouse, warehouse).
- Prioritize and translate business data needs into product backlog items for engineering.
- Lead delivery of dashboards, reports, and ad-hoc analysis that drive decision-making.
- Promote and support self-service analytics: build reusable datasets, templates, and training.
- Manage and mentor a small team of data analysts/engineers and coordinate with enterprise data teams.
- Serve as primary liaison between business units, risk/compliance, and IT on data topics.
- Evaluate and pilot new data tools, governance frameworks, and automation to reduce time-to-insight.
What you need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or similar. Advanced degree or certifications (e.g., data governance, analytics) a plus.
- 5+ years working with data in a corporate environment; 2+ years in a manager or lead role (or equivalent).
- Hands-on with data pipelines, modeling, data governance, or analytics delivery.
- Good understanding of data platforms (cloud data warehouse/lakehouse concepts), ETL/EL frameworks, and query languages (SQL required).
- Familiarity with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, Looker or similar) and data catalog / governance tools.
- Comfortable reading technical architecture and collaborating with data engineers; not required to code production systems but should understand data engineering trade-offs.
- Proven experience standing up or operating data governance programs, data lineage, and quality frameworks.
- Strong business partnering skills; able to translate business questions into data requirements and actionable insights.
- Excellent verbal and written communication; experience presenting to senior stakeholders.
Why join our team:
- We help you be your best through professional development opportunities, interesting work and supportive leaders.
- We foster a vibrant and inclusive culture where you can work with talented colleagues to create new solutions and have impact for colleagues, clients and communities.
- Our scale enables us to provide a range of career opportunities, as well as benefits and rewards to enhance your well-being.
