Data Engineering Manager

The mission

Johnny, our CTO, is looking for a Data Engineering Manager to join his team as Scalapay grows. 

Your mission will be focused on leading the design and development of innovative data and machine learning solutions that are simplistic yet scalable to meet the needs of our engineering teams.

As a Data Engineering Manager, you'll lead a team of engineers to develop scalable, impactful solutions that address complex problems and deliver value to our customers.

Key responsibilities:

• Lead Machine Learning Projects: Oversee the design, development, and optimization of machine learning models to solve business challenges.
• Data Integration: Build and integrate ML models into reliable, scalable data pipelines.
• Cloud-Based Deployment: Deploy and manage ML models using AWS tools like SageMaker.
• Data Infrastructure: Design and implement robust data architectures to support ML workflows.
• Model Performance: Monitor and maintain models in production to ensure optimal performance.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with data scientists, engineers, and product teams to align solutions with business needs.
• Team Leadership: Mentor and guide engineers, fostering professional growth and technical excellence.

You’ll be great for this role if you have:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5-7+ years of experience in data engineering and machine learning roles.
• Proficiency in Snowflake, SQL, Python, and AWS services (S3, EC2, SageMaker).
• Expertise in building and deploying ML models, feature engineering, and managing feature stores.
• Experience with dbt for transforming data and creating tested workflows.
• Deep knowledge of ML algorithms, data modeling, and warehousing solutions.
• Strong communication, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.

Recruitment process:

1. Initial Chat: A brief conversation with our Talent Acquisition team to get to know you and understand your fit for the role.
2. Hiring Manager Interview: First interview with the CTO and the Director of Engineering to deep dive into your experiences, better understand your motivation and explore your skills.
3. Case Study: A skills-based exercise followed by a debriefing session with key stakeholders, conducted in our Milan office.
4. Final Chat with Simone (CEO): A chance to discuss Scalapay’s values, company vision, and ensure strong cultural alignment. During this stage, we will also conduct reference checks to validate your experience and achievements.
