Summary:
The Senior SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL) Configurator/Lead is responsible for leading, configuring, and managing electrical data build activities within Hexagon SmartPlant Electrical, strictly aligned with Functional Design Specifications (FDS).
The role focuses on driving SPEL build activities, ensuring high data quality, and enabling seamless integration with SmartPlant Foundation and other engineering tools. The position ensures adherence to project standards, data integrity, and efficient collaboration across multi-disciplinary teams.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Lead Smart Electrical (SPEL) build and configuration activities as per FDS requirements
- Perform project setup, template configuration, and administration of all SPEL modules
- Manage SPEL configurations including access control, reports, catalogs, and project standards
- Customize reports such as cable schedules, electrical load lists, and load summaries using VBA
- Configure and manage Import Manager, including data link creation and association
- Drive integration between SPEL and SmartPlant Foundation (SPF), as well as other authoring tools
- Liaise with SmartPlant administrators, DBAs, client teams, and vendors for solutions and customization
- Execute application upgrades, migrations, and post-upgrade validation activities
- Work on project model and as-built data management within SPEL
- Ensure compliance with design standards, naming conventions, and engineering best practices
- Perform data validation, audits, and ensure data consistency across systems
- Provide L2/L3 technical support and troubleshooting for SPEL-related issues
- Manage backups, user roles, permissions, and system performance
Professional & Technical Skills:
- Strong expertise in: Project setup & configuration, Reports configuration & customization and Access control and administration
- Hands-on experience with: Options Manager, Rule Manager, and Import Manager, VBA-based report customization, SQL query writing for SQL Server and Oracle databases
- Experience in: Data extraction, functions, and database management, SPEL version upgrades and migration activities As-built and project model handling
- Knowledge of SPEL design standards and engineering workflows
- Integration experience with:
- SmartPlant Foundation (SPF)
- Other tools such as SmartPlant 3D (SP3D) and SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) Basic understanding of SPPID and cross-tool integrations.Familiarity with international standards such as IEC and IEEE.
- Proven experience leading SPEL build/configuration activities in engineering projects
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering deliverables: Cable schedules. Load lists and summaries and Electrical drawings (SLD, schematics)
- Experience working in multi-discipline, multi-user project environments
- Ability to coordinate across engineering, IT, and client teams
- Domain experience in Oil & Gas, Power, or Petrochemical industries
