Huntsman is seeking a Contractor Safety Leader supporting the Performance Products Division located in Conroe, Texas. This position will report to the EHS Manager.
Job Scope
Plan, coordinate, and implement all plant activities relating to the safety of contract workers on site. Participates in formulating plant administrative policies, practices and procedures as related to site contract work by both nested and outside contract companies. Be the liaison between contractors and plant Safety.
As the Contractor Safety Leader, you will:
- Develop and administer plant safety procedures for contract work at the site. Work to coordinate between the various departments (i.e. maintenance and technical) that directly oversee field contract work at the plant to ensure procedures are followed.
- Maintain a high level of field presence and help identify and mitigate health, safety, and environmental risks specifically by contract companies on site.
- Audit the contractors at the plant for safety procedure compliance, project safety manual compliance and for compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Conduct onboarding orientation and ensure Huntsman’s expectations are met on the applicable site contract work safety procedures.
- Oversee and provide input for the development of project specific safety manuals as needed for outside contractor work.
- Be responsible for the facilitation of pre-project safety orientations for outside contractors to review applicable site safety procedures, project safety manual requirements, and applicable chemical and other hazards at the plant.
- Ensure third party safety oversight is conducted as needed for specialty contract tasks and special projects (i.e. building and structural construction, turnarounds, etc.)
- Communicate behavior-based safety observation and management safety interaction opportunities to Huntsman associates as opportunities arise for active contract work.
- Participate in Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs), Management of Change (MOC)s, Emergency Response team, Incident Investigations, etc.
- Oversee contractor training material at the Houston Area Safety Council, reviews training material to ensure equivalency to Huntsman safety standards.
- Assist with the security process at the Site (badging, security inspections, etc).
- Prepare for and participates in internal and external safety and environmental audits as they relate to contractors.
- Sponsor the Central Safety Committee (CSC) initiative, ensuring that agenda and outputs are followed through.
- Participate in site safety initiatives (ex., BBS, Clean Sweeps, and Zero Harm).
- Follow instructions and performs other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
- Assist other employees in accomplishment of Huntsman company goals.
Required Qualifications:
You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.
The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in safety or related technical field with 5+ years of relevant working experience in an EHS role.
- Associate's degree or related technical field with 10+ years of relevant working experience in an EHS role.
Specific Skills and Knowledge:
- Must have a level of proficiency with Internet, Email, and Microsoft program
- Knowledge in application and compliance requirements of regulatory codes (OSHA-29 CFR 1926 and 1910, EPA, TCEQ, etc.), especially in Critical Lifts, Confined Space Entry, Control of Hazardous Energy, Excavation, Work Permitting, Working at Heights, Heat-Related Illness programs, Severe Weather Conditions, etc.
- Familiar with industry standards and recommended practices (NFPA, ACGIH, ANSI, etc.) preferred
- Ability to plan, delegate, and organize tasks to consistently produce results, with minimal supervision.
- Ability to function efficiently in a multi-disciplined, cross-functional environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with multiple layers of the organizations.
- Knowledge in ISNetworld Contractor Management software is a plus.
- Spanish language skills are a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- ASP, CSP, CIH or relevant professional certification valued
