DESCRIPTION:

This is a collaborative role on a strategically important team. It requires knowledge of strategic communication as a discipline and the willingness to continuously sharpen communication skills. The position rewards close partnership with peers at all levels of the function, passion for understanding of the web's impact on society, and creativity in producing engaging, informative, and visually appealing web pages and content.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • A bachelor's degree and three to four years of relevant experience.
  • A growth-oriented mindset.
  • Emotional intelligence, strong communication, and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent grammar, spelling, writing and proofreading skills.
  • A professional demeanor, collaborative working style, and sound judgement.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision while contributing to the organization's goals and objectives.



COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office 365 suite, including PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Familiarity with content management systems, HTML production platforms and template-based web pages.
  • Familiarity with best practices in information architecture, structured data, document schemas, content taxonomies, tagging, and search engine optimization.
  • Experience with Tridion, Wordpress, Sharepoint, JIRA, Canva, Duda, and graphics, audio, and video production technologies preferred, but not required.



RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • With managerial guidance, take ownership of and be accountable for APA's online presence.
  • Plan, research, write, edit, and proofread website material and editorial content for assigned programs, offices, and directorates so that it reflects the goals and initiatives of APA and is in line with established information architecture.
  • Select, crop and enhance images for digital production.


  • Quickly evaluate and understand partner needs and ideas and shape them into relevant and thought-provoking digital presentations.


  • Aim to increasingly understand public awareness and perception of APA and the issues APA cares most about.
  • Help devise and execute creative digital approaches to representing APA and the science of psychology beyond the traditional story format.
  • Assist in the maintenance of an editorial calendar to ensure web content is continuously updated, accurate, and optimized.
  • Audit and monitor quality of existing website content.
  • Drive improvements to existing digital workflow.



Other Duties as Assigned

  • Serve as an ambassador of the Communication function internally and of APA externally.
  • Meaningfully contribute to the overall effectiveness and impact of Communication.
