Technical Writer
Capital One is seeking a technical writer to join the Card Architecture Team to help document the outputs from architecture related design discussions, forums, and workshops. These outputs will empower our Product, Engineering, Architecture, and Senior Leadership Teams with better understanding of our current and target state architectures and help them make better data driven decisions for millions of consumers. The technical writer will play a key role with documenting, developing, and standardizing the business and technical outputs.
The right candidates will have a love of technology, a genuine ability to use language as a tool, and deeply technical experience as a tech writer. They’ll also be strong grammarians who understand how sentence structure and word choice can clarify or obscure meaning. Juggling multiple projects and driving their successful and timely completion is their forte. They welcome technical challenges, and are focused on the business and strategic outcomes. Who we are:
Card Architecture is a group of seasoned Architects, Distinguished Engineers, and Process Managers that help establish and socialize Card Architecture principles, standards, and best practices; design target architectures and platforms. The group helps evolve strategy and targets through deep understanding of intent, while driving pragmatic solutions through actionable architecture for effective software delivery.
Responsibilities
Review documentation for consistency across processes through application of standards and style guides
Transform complex, technical material into clear and concise documentation that will be read by target audience members such as Engineers, Product Managers, Architects, and Senior Leadership.
Translate complex ideas into understandable logical concepts using both architectural diagrams and supporting descriptions
Write in a formal technical writing style (for example, active voice, implied you, consistent tenses, etc.)
Conduct in-depth interviews with subject matter experts to fully understand the architecture or products
Collaborate with engineers and architects on a daily basis to ensure documentation is kept up-to-date
Rely upon metrics and other forms of data to understand the variation in utility of the content, and identify areas in need of review
Maintain and continuously update content management system(s) of documentation
Basic Qualifications
At least 2 years of experience documenting technology products or architectures
Bachelor’s degree
Preferred Qualifications:
At least 3+ years of experience in business or technical writing for software delivery or architecture
1 year of experience in a financial services industry
1 year of experience working in an Agile environment
2 years of experience working with software engineering or architecture teams
