Technical Writer II
Summary
The Technical Writing team manages Aristocrat's technical product content. We are a team of highly talented Technical Writers who collaborate with developers, quality engineers, product managers, and field technicians to document the organization's products.
We are looking for a Technical Writer to develop high-quality documentation that contributes to the overall success of our products. The Technical Writer's role is to develop written information and documentation about the organization's products, tool sets, templates, publication standards, etc. Outputs include a range of informative, procedural, and technical documents for product certification and for use by technical and non-technical audiences across all departments. Additionally, the Technical Writer contributes to the global technical writing team as part of company-wide initiatives and defining standards for technical communications.
What You'll Do

  • Plan, design, research, write, and edit a range of documents, including user, configuration, architecture, installation, and deployment software manuals; internal standards; document templates; presentations; and more.
  • Edit written developer documentation as well as other technical content to create unified and consistent documents.
  • Collaborate with development staff to collect and interpret technical information.
  • Liaise with directors, managers, product owners, and end users to identify and define processes, procedures, requirements, and specifications to establish documentation needs for the products and deployment including, but not limited to, software and game-related systems and processes.
  • Ensure timely delivery of documentation sets within an Agile product lifecycle.
  • Report regularly to stakeholders the progress of each project including all outstanding dependencies.
  • Perform peer editing and production reviews using an internal Standards Guide, Information Architecture Model, and industry standards.
  • Ensure final documents are user-friendly and of high quality.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend documentation methods in support of improvement efforts. Keep up with industry trends and share knowledge with the team to stay on the cutting edge.
  • Establish, communicate, and maintain documentation standards and provide training where required.
  • Manage documentation projects to completion, meeting milestones as project owner.
  • Keep documentation sets for assigned projects updated, accurate, and delivered on time, meeting multiple critical deadlines for, at a minimum, quarterly releases.
  • Mentor other technical writers as needed in areas of intermediate expertise.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or equivalent experience.
  • A background working with technology development.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in software development writing and document preparation.
  • Experience in managing a documentation project from beginning to completion, including the areas of information gathering, planning, and organizing methods and principles.
  • Experience with DITA XML, topic-based authoring software (oXygen, Heretto, etc.), publication software, Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, Adobe Suites, screen capture utilities, defect tracking software, and file management systems.
  • Strong understanding of document structuring, content flow, and presentation techniques.
