Technical Writer and Editor
Key Role:

Research, outline, write, and edit technical documents, working closely with team leads and members to understand project requirements. Gather information from subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop, organize, write, and edit client-facing material, including reports, briefings, user manuals, training manuals, technical requirements documents, and administrative documents. Develop or review other documents, including slick sheets, white papers, Statements of Work (SOW), Request for Proposal (RFP) responses, and Functional Requirements Documents (FRD), and edit and proofread technical documents for presentation to government client. Rewrite portions of text to improve clarity, completeness, and cogency by correcting grammar, punctuation, misstatements, spelling, and ambiguity and edit text to ensure conciseness, proper verb tenses, correct terminology, definition acronyms, symbols, and table captions. Ensure proper language usage and discussion flow and verify all listed references are cited. Compare and proofread illustrations, photographs, tables, graphs, and charts with text to assure proper placement and layout and ensure security markings are affixed as directed. Create technical report templates to capture stakeholder data and present in a consistent format to the government client.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience with technical writing and editing, streamlining documents for distribution, and implementing improvements
  • Experience working with multiple writing, editing, and publishing tools, including Microsoft Office, and office styles, cross references, document templates, and slide masters
  • Experience with compiling material from various sources and creating draft documents for review
  • Knowledge of virtual collaboration platforms and associated Apps
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members both virtually and in-person
  • Ability to write user manuals, operating procedures, technical training materials, presentations, reports, and studies
  • Ability to incorporate graphics, illustrations, tables, or charts into documents
  • Ability to participate in meetings, synthesize key points, and develop documentation, including meeting minutes
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance
  • Bachelor's degree

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience working with the Federal government and Navy training programs
  • Experience working on project management teams and working with classified documents, including the use of portion and classification markings
  • Knowledge of Navy training modernization strategies, including Ready Relevant Learning
  • Ability to deliver on-the-job technical training to staff to improve document staffing efficacy
  • Ability to communicate cross-functionally and across management levels, triage issues, react well to changes, work with teams, and multi-task on multiple products and projects
  • Ability to be results-oriented with a customer focus
  • Secret clearance
  • Master's degree in a relevant field of study preferred
  • Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
