Role Overview
The Translation and Content Editor is responsible for the development and delivery of high-quality Spanish language instructional materials at Great Minds. The Translations and Content Editor supports the work of the Translation team and ensures that all translation projects done internally and with vendor support meet Great Mind's quality standards.
Specific Responsibilities:

  • Support the day-to-day coordination and communications for all translation projects including work conducted by outside vendors and contractors
  • Support the Translation and Content Supervising Editor during the evaluation of the translation project requests and determine whether projects can be completed in-house with existing resources or need to be sent to an LSP (Language Service Provider)
  • Assist Translation and Content Supervising Editor during resource planning for projects and schedules
  • Support the Translation and Content Supervising Editor and assist in the coordination of translation projects as the team evaluates and gather materials from English Content teams
  • Establish and maintain a strong, professional working relationship with vendor representatives and freelance contractors
  • Assist vendor and freelancers in troubleshooting any issues that arise during the translation process
  • Work directly with production and product teams as necessary (same for both)
  • Participate in the evaluation of project specific problems and options for solutions
  • Support the creation of project-specific checklists and ensure they are complete, accurate, timely and understandable
  • Support Design Team during development and revision of templates for multilingual products
  • Contribute to the development of improved workflow and processes
  • Attend project planning and status meetings
  • Meet with Great Minds Content teams to gather information on products and expectations prior to translation project kickoff
  • Support new and existing employees on current and future initiatives, workflows, and technologies
  • Implement best practices for translations, adaptations, and quality assurance reviews for print and/or digital content


Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain skills and familiarity with the most current edition of MS Word, Adobe Creative, SharePoint, and other relevant management/tracking and document management programs
  • Experience using and managing Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools (i.e. Wordfast Pro 5, SDL Trados) to leverage translation memories and generate efficiencies across company projects
  • Use SharePoint, Smartsheet, Jira, and other document management sites for appropriate projects
  • Communicate in a timely and effective manner to resolve questions and to ensure that errors are properly corrected
  • Perform other tasks as directed


Job requirements
Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Spanish, Elementary or Secondary Education, Linguistics and/or Translation with a concentration in Spanish preferred
  • Mathematics curriculum background as a teacher or writer is preferred
  • Experience using and managing Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools (i.e. Wordfast Pro 5, SDL Trados) to leverage translation memories and generate efficiencies across company projects
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English and Spanish fluently
  • Exceptional Spanish-language editing and proofreading skills
  • Experience with translation of documents and/or proofing of translated documents in Spanish
  • Minimum five years' professional experience is required
  • Minimum two years' proofreading experience is a must
  • Ability to be efficient and organized while working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience in copyediting, proofreading, and formatting in both English and Spanish
  • Expert knowledge of and experience with CMOS style guidelines
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud (specifically InCopy and InDesign), project management/tracking programs, and SharePoint or other document management programs
  • Verbal and written communication must be professional, comprehensive, clear, direct, and accurate
  • Knowledge of print and/or digital production and publishing processes


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent Spanish and English writing skills including impeccable spelling and grammar
  • Outstanding communication skills both in writing and speaking
  • Exceptionally detail oriented and also able to see the big picture
  • Maintain high-quality work and thrive in a deadline-driven, high-volume production environment
  • Flexibility to easily switch between tasks and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Personable with the ability to maintain a sense of humor under pressure
  • High degree of professionalism
  • Exposure to working with or (preferably) within a remote team
  • Desire to learn new skills and technologies and the acumen to suggest alternative work methods in the interest of saving time and resources
  • Ability to contribute to a highly motivating atmosphere in which many different people feel valued, energized, and enthusiastic about achieving common goals
  • A love for the Spanish language, translating, and ensuring delivery of the highest quality educational products
