Overview of Position

The Senior Technical Writer is responsible for creating and maintaining documentation deliverables for the Network & Financial Management product families. They are responsible for creating product documentation for our software releases, as well as ad hoc documentation needs. This person works closely with product teams, other technical writers and team leads, as well as product SMEs to produce documentation deliverables on-time and up to departmental standards.

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?

  • Support product initiatives and releases, by writing product documentation on time and with quality in various formats: printed documentation (Word/PDF), online documentation (HTML5/Webhelp), and other industry standard methods (wikis, etc.)
  • Research, plan, write, and edit audience-appropriate and high-quality documentation (e.g., user and technical documentation in Madcap Flare, and in some cases, hosted using Madcap Central)
  • Produce documentation aligned with departmental standards using consistency in terminology, style, and voice and follow departmental practices for release development, including documentation planning, peer reviews and participation in product testing
  • Conduct research on product features and technical functionality to support documentation updates working within an Agile product development methodology
  • Develop and maintain documentation plans and time estimates for assigned projects and establish appropriate communication channels to acquire complete and correct information regarding the topics to be documented
  • Participate in agile sprint development of ongoing documentation features and functionality, including style and content updates as well as documentation defects
  • Work with team members to test, validate, and deliver quarterly maintenance releases of six documentation solutions hosted in Madcap Central on-time and with quality
  • Deliver customer demonstrations of the online documentation for new customers (working with the Training team and the Services teams)


What are the requirements needed for this position?

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing, or Professional Writing
  • 5+ years' experience in technical writing
  • Intermediate-Advanced level knowledge and experience with computer applications, such asMicrosoft Word, PowerPoint, Confluence, Subversion, SharePoint and Teams in a business setting
  • Experience working in Agile/Kanban development environment using Atlassian Jira/Confluence
  • Detailed knowledge of Madcap Flare or Adobe RoboHelp


What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?

  • Experience working in software/IT space
  • 2+ years' experience with hosted documentation using Madcap Central
  • Strong interviewing and information-gathering skills and basic ability to interpret code
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to efficiently multi-task betweenmultiple projects and responsibilities
  • Good verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills with attention to detail
  • Highly collaborative, self-starter; active, problem solver and adult learner
