We're looking for a top-notcheditorto oversee POLITICO Playbook, our franchise newsletter on power, personalities and politics in the nation's capital and the most coveted journalistic real estate in Washington. The mission: Ensure it delivers the goods day in and day out to a highly discerning audience of political power players, professionals and obsessives.

Theideal candidate must be a voracious consumer of political news,able to pinpoint the stories and reporting nuggets across the news landscape that move the needle; deciding what should or shouldn't make the cut for the newsletter is a key part of the job. The ability to synthesize the state of play in Washington and politics with snappy and incisive writing is a must. And critically, we're looking for someone who will bring creative ideas for new features or reporting targets to strengthen its connection with readers and keep it feeling fresh.

This is a powerful and rewarding job. It's a chance to manage top talent and to help guide a publication that consistently drives the agenda in Washington.The hours often include late nights and some weekend work, butPOLITICO has put in place a robust supporting cast for Playbook to ensure the workload is manageable. Work-life balance is important to us in principle and in order to avoid burnout.

What You'll Do:

  • Work with a team of three authors, four producers and a deputyeditorto produce POLITICO's marquee newsletter.
  • Conceive new ideas to ensure Playbook connects even more strongly with our audience of DC insiders and people who breathe politics.
  • Work with Playbook authors and POLITICO's audio team on our flagship politics podcast, Deep Dive. Help coordinate Playbook-branded news events.
  • Collaborate witheditors and reporters across the newsroom on items from our policy, states and Magazine teams.



What You'll Need:

  • 5+ years of newsroom experience, including some experience editing and managing a team of reporters.
  • A command of politics and impeccable news judgment.
  • A creative streak and a willingness to try new things.
  • Sharp, conversational writing skills.
