Patient Experiences Editor
GoodRx is America’s healthcare marketplace. Each month, 20 million people visit goodrx.com to find reliable health information and discounts for their healthcare — and we’ve helped people save $30 billion since 2011. We provide prescription discounts that are accepted at more than 70,000 pharmacies in the U.S., as well as telehealth services including doctor visits and lab tests. Our services have been positively reviewed by Good Morning America, The New York Times, NBC News, AARP, and many others.
Our goal is to help Americans find convenient and affordable healthcare. We offer solutions for consumers, employers, health plans, and anyone else who shares our desire to provide affordable prescriptions to all Americans.
We’re committed to growing and empowering a more inclusive community within our company and industry. That’s why we hire and cultivate diverse teams of the best and brightest from all backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. We believe that true innovation happens when everyone has a seat at the table and the tools, resources, and opportunities to excel.
With that said, research shows that women and other underrepresented groups apply only if they meet 100% of the criteria. GoodRx is committed to leveling the playing field, and we encourage women, people of color, those in the LGBTQ+ communities, and Veterans to apply for positions even if they don’t necessarily check every box outlined in the job description. Please still get in touch - we’d love to connect and see if you could be good for the role!
We need a strong storyteller to help us to reveal individual experiences with their health and healthcare. These will be editorial pieces, not marketing, that are a part of our broader strategy that includes extensive clinical, pharmacy, health personal finance and well-being content.
Patient stories will be paired with all of these content categories to further illuminate them for our readers--and may also work in conjunction with video, consumer tools and social media efforts. Of all of the myriad kinds of healthcare information available online, patient stories offer the most potential to really reach someone who is struggling with health issues to inspire and inform them.
You would have the opportunity to shape and develop this role--and how we present stories about patient experiences. Our expectation is that these editorial pieces will be very personal and relatable, clearly presenting a whole, complex person as well as their path to diagnosis, treatment journey, related financial issues, as well as highlighting some of the choices made and constraints faced along the way.
We want to be able to speak frankly about tough health issues, but in a deeply personal, straightfoward, human way--think Death, Sex & Money and Humans of New York.
This role requires managing and editing freelancers, who will do the bulk of the writing. It can also include writing patient experience profiles, as you are interested and able. The Patient Experiences Editor will need to publish at least 15 to 20 patient stories per month--and to ensure that these are addressing relevant, informative and timely subject areas.
You will also need to work closely with content promotions, social media, and SEO to ensure that your pieces are well-positioned to gain a wide readership. Be willing and open to experiment with how patient experiences articles can work best alongside video, photos/illustrations, consumer tools and even user-generated content.
Responsibilities:
- Develop several pathways to source patients for interviews directly, as well as via internal and external healthcare professionals
- Recruit, on-board and train at least one dozen freelancers, enough to easily meet publishing targets
- Establish processes to record and transcribe patient interviews in a HIPAA-compliant manner
- Routinely pitch ideas in weekly meetings and frequent brainstorming sessions
- Ability and willingness to assign and edit to maximize the fecundity, clarity and creativity of your freelancers
- Work closely with SEO and production teams to publish in a timely manner
- Ensure any content produced is accurate by working with our Medical Review process, as well as fact-checking
Skills & Qualifications:
- At least 3 to 5 years writing and editing content or journalism, ideally related to health, healthcare and patient experiences
- Strong structural, line and copy-editing skills
- Be comfortable being a leader--and a team player
- Passion for investigating the needs of different audiences and shaping content to address what matters to them
- Proficiency in optimizing for specific content distribution channels like newsletters, social media, and SEO
- Takes initiative and is self-directed, but also thrives in collaborative settings
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Professional creative writing experience is a big plus
