KLAS the CBS affiliate in Las Vegas is looking for aweekend Digital Multi-Media Journalistready to take their skills to the next level. The position requires daily digital live reporting, shooting, editing, live shots, and online and on-air responsibilities, in addition to digital producing. The successful candidate will report on news and feature stories, develop sources and tell stories that are important to our community. We are looking for storytellers with strong writing skills and committed to a strong social media presence.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Select, write and organize news stories for digital content, including website, mobile app and social media platforms
  • Shoots and edits stories
  • Contribute story ideas and participate in daily editorial meetings
  • Coordinate, plan, develop future stories and monitor breaking news
  • Must use OBS regularly, by integrating the on-air product and the digital products successfully
  • Collaborate with digital and newsroom staff
  • Evaluate news leads and tips to develop and pitch story ideas relevant and important to the local community
  • Gather and verify accurate information about newsworthy events.
  • Produce accurate, complete and compelling copy and stories on deadline
  • Present compelling, clear, creative and accurate live shots, on air and online
  • Use digital and social platforms to produce and deliver live updates
  • Review copy and correct errors in content, grammar and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines
  • Post stories to website and social media platforms
  • Revise work to meet editorial approval or to fit time requirements
  • Work closely with news managers
  • Ensure that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
  • Daily interaction with viewers/users on social media
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned
  • Play an active and visible role in the community



Requirements & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
  • Fluency in English required Bilingual Spanish a plus
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required
  • One-year experience in news reporting (TV, digital, newspaper or radio experience) preferred
  • Be in the know of current events, politics, and pop culture on a national and local level
  • Knowledge of WordPress a plus
  • Knowledge of OBS a plus
  • Superior on-camera presence
  • Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, and other office equipment
  • Proficiency with research skills
  • Excellent reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and organizational skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Promote teamwork and maintain attitude of cooperation with all station personnel
  • Self-starter, organized and motivated, work quickly
  • Flexibility to work any shift including holidays and weekends



Physical Demands & Work Environment:
The Digital Multi-Media Journalist must be able to sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work in close proximity to others, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. In addition, the News Production Assistant must be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Repetitive movements are required. Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
