Working closely with key partners across Science, the Managing Editor will coordinate print and digital student-facing and teacher-facing content for a specific grade band (K-2, 3-5, 6-8).The person in this role will be responsible for managing curriculum developers or vendors to build new digital and print curriculum materials. The Managing Editor will report to the Senior Managing Editor, Science, and use their judgement, teaching ability, and deep understanding of science content to lead and prioritize content creation and production. This position is highly collaborative in nature, partnering with teammates and decision-makers across the division to move projects forward.
Responsibilities

  • Participate in the creation and maintenance of grade band key documents, including style guides, lesson templates, sample modules, etc.
  • Assist the Senior Managing Editor in the planning of module scope, sequence, and narrative.
  • Assign and manage the workflow of curriculum developers/vendors by defining tasks, reviewing curriculum components, answering questions, troubleshooting, etc.
  • Review curriculum developers'/vendors' work for accuracy, consistency, style, and standard coherence.
  • Contribute to Science content team meetings to review, determine, and communicate key decisions around pedagogy, vocabulary, routines, etc., in the Science product.
  • Write student-facing and teacher-facing science content (lessons, notebook pages, slides, etc.) when necessary and when workflow allows.
  • Participate in workshops with Design and Prototyping resources.
  • Collaborate with the Production team to conceptualize, bug hunt, and share feedback on digital publishes of content.
  • Peer-edit and review print proofs.


Basic Qualifications of the Managing Editor

  • Master's degree in education or equivalent
  • 3+ years of instructional design experience, with a track record of producing clean documents on time
  • 2+ years of management experience or commensurate demonstration of management ability
  • 3+ years teaching experience in a formal classroom environment within K-8 grade range
  • Excellent verbal, written and communication skills
  • Proven knowledge of K-8 science standards
  • Proficiency in using digital tools for science learning.


Preferred Qualifications of the Managing Editor

  • Bachelor's degree in science, or similarly relevant subject area
  • Familiarity and proficiency with non-NGSS science state standards as well as literacy and math standards
  • Proven experience working with students of diverse levels of preparation and background
  • Creative use of online media in adapting science education materials
