Job Title: Legal Content Writer (Contract)

The Opportunity

This role will be expected to work a 40 hour work week with the hopes of becoming full-time after the contract. The term of contract is between 6-12 months.

As a Content Writer at Three Ships Legal, you will have meaningful content responsibilities and will play a crucial role in our content production process. You’ll be responsible for delivering perfect, accurate, and well-researched copy that will engage our consumer audience with legal issues, rank well, and be informative and even entertaining. This is a full-time, fully remote contract position.

Accountabilities

  • Write legal informational and product review content for consumer audiences;
  • Summarize existing original legal information content for use in different venues;
  • Research and accurately summarize statutes, cases, and related legal content within a variety of legal practice areas;
  • Correct content for style, grammar, punctuation, and spelling; 
  • Work with team leads, editors and/or senior editors to constantly refine and improve content creation style;
  • Assist with outreach to media, brands and influencers, work with product testing and video coordination (including script writing, staging and planning) as needed;
  • Work with Digital Content and Social Media Teams to optimize content using best practices in tagging, keyword usage, headline creation, content optimization, and basic SEO; 
  • Brainstorm visual and copy ideas with our editorial team and digital marketing partners; 
  • Refine and update existing content pieces to reflect updated best practices and information, such as changes to the law or products reviewed;
  • Demonstrate a meticulous approach to your work and display a highly organized, focused process and an ability to execute.

What your background shows

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Creative Writing, Journalism, Communications, or related field preferred. 
  • JD required.
  • 1-3+ years of proven dexterity with written language. You can translate ideas and complex research into an attractive, accurate copy that engages and informs your audience. You may demonstrate this with a portfolio of varied writing samples directed at different audiences.
  • Experience and/or passion for SEO and content marketing a plus. If you don’t have this experience, you are eager and passionate about learning and applying these strategies to your content in a consistent and natural way.
  • Problem solving and agility. You thrive in an environment where there is no playbook for success. You can adapt to different tasks and shift priorities as needed. You have an entrepreneurial spirit and are energized by helping to build a brand new team.

  • Comfort in working with an editor and receiving feedback on your writing, adapting to new styles, practices, and platforms.
