Curriculum Associates, LLC is a rapidly growing educational publishing company located northwest of Boston, MA. We publish best-in-class reading, language arts, math, assessments, and test prep programs for PreK–8 and at-risk secondary students. For the past 50 years, we have consistently developed high-quality products that make classrooms better places for teachers and students.

Executive Editor, English Language Arts (ELA) will lead editorial teams across grades 6–8 and collaborate cross-functionally to develop print and digital resources to support middle school ELA instruction. Reporting to the Editorial Director, the Executive Editor will help plan, conceptualize, and define products, as well as manage roles and responsibilities to deliver high-quality materials that improve educational outcomes. The ideal candidate will be a proven editor and manager who knows what books appeal to students and teachers at middle school, understands ELA research, and has experience managing editorial processes.

The impact you'll have:

  • Actively participate in defining product goals: how a product will delight students, deliver growth, and support teachers
  • Drive the development of prototypes, guidelines, and other specifications for these products, working closely with the Editorial Director and the Editorial team
  • Write and edit content to execute on these goals and details
  • Lead teams, providing training, reviewing lessons, clarifying expectations, and generally supporting editors and writers
  • Solve editorial problems, escalating problems as needed to the Editorial Director
  • Engage in planning and documenting effective and efficient editorial schedules and workflows that support the delivery of high-quality materials
  • Drive team performance to schedule, attending status meetings, providing updates, and arriving at creative solutions to problems
  • Model and guide clear effective communication and feedback with team members, other internal teams, and outside vendors
  • Continually deepen an understanding of research on ELA instruction, digital tools, teacher practices, and student engagement, with an eye toward incorporating it into our products
  • Contribute to constant improvement in the effectiveness of process and communication on the team

 What we're looking for:

  • A passion for books-a reader with knowledge of young adult literature and informational texts for the same age group
  • A strong leader with the ability to motivate and grow teams
  • Ability to prioritize and track deliverables on a daily basis
  • Demonstrated commitment to developing high-quality, instructionally sound content
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback to team members
  • Strong project management skills, with a talent for multi-tasking and team organization
  • A team player who thinks creatively, works collaboratively, maintains a flexible approach to solving problems, and is great at both giving and receiving feedback
  • Experience developing both digital and print products preferred
  • Experience with software such as Microsoft Office, Zoom, Adobe Acrobat, InCopy, Woodwing, Slack

Not required, thought we'd love to see:

  • 6–8 years of experience writing and editing ELA resources at grades 6–8
  • 3–4 years of experience managing teams developing content for grades 6–8 ELA
  • Classroom teaching experience at secondary
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in education, language arts, or a related field
