POSITION SUMMARY
We are looking for a talented Director of Editorial to lead content development for Great Minds' science department. In this key leadership position, the Director will
  • lead the editorial services of all content created by, or in service of the science department
  • lead editorial level initiatives for readability and accessibility
  • ensure timely delivery on commitments in support of the organization's strategic vision and near- and long-term goals,

The Director of Editorial manages a team of managing editors, senior managing editors, and/or associate directors and reports to the Chief Academic Officer (CAO) of Science.
Core Responsibilities
  • Maintain a complete understanding of the vision, product requirements and quality standards for each project or product as established by the CAO and the Product function and be accountable for producing content that aligns thereto and meets established quality standards
  • Mentor and develop a team of direct reports who serve as managing editors, as senior managing editors, or as Associate Directors, managing a subset thereof.
    • Establish team structures to optimize efficient production of high-quality content
    • Collaborate with CAO to set annual and quarterly goals for the function that align with those of the department and larger organization and can be used in goal setting with entire content team
  • Collaborate with the CAO and other department areas to
    • identify areas for staff development and monitor the success of training programs designed thereto
    • develop and improve upon on vetting and onboarding practices for each content role
  • Collaborate with the Program Operations and Management function to
    • review project progress and mitigate risks
    • review efficiency metrics related to content/product creation and explore and implement innovations in process, structure, training, et. al. that may improve efficiency
  • Collaborate with the Production Services and design team functions to
    • ensure deliverables are in the proper formats for customer usability
    • ensure materials are readable
    • ensure accessibility of the curriculum to all learners and identify exceptions
    • ensure art and images are permissions accordingly

Job requirements
  • 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of the K-12 publishing industry
  • A history of leading in alignment with the culture and vision set forth by the leaders of their department and larger organization
  • A track record of successfully evaluating and solving problems to meet project goals within the established boundaries related to scope, resources and timeline
  • Willingness to learn about PhD Science products
  • Judgement for when to escalate or solicit input from others, in particular leaders that you report into and higher, but also from those in parallel or subordinate roles
  • Adeptness at succinctly and effectively communicating with stakeholders across the organization both orally (in meetings and presentations) and in writing (in correspondences and presentation decks)
  • Demonstrated ability to distill broad guidelines and information into an actionable sequence of steps
  • Demonstrated ability to develop in others the skills of curriculum architecture, development and editing
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead large scopes of work including multiple projects in a variety of sizes
  • A history of fostering collaboration and forward progress with colleagues - both within and outside of the organization - through diplomacy, transparency, a balance of active listening and sharing, and open-mindedness
  • Judgement and experience in deescalating and paving a path forward when tensions arise while interacting with colleagues and/or external customers
