Job Summary
The Copywriting Lead is responsible for the daily production of multiple client projects, ensuring all copy meets established quality standards. While the ideal candidate will have a solid background in copywriting and copy editing, the majority of their day-to-day focus will be on managing the copywriting process and writers. Therefore strong experience in project management and the ability to work collaboratively and efficiently with external clients and freelancers is a must. This person must be proactive, have strong attention to detail, and have a passion for copywriting in all forms.
The Copywriting Lead will also drive the development of Hawke Media's copywriting service offering, resourcing, processes, and training. As a highly conceptual problem solver, articulate presenter of ideas, and builder of strong client relationships they must be able to motivate and inspire the efforts of various team members (while still loving to get their own hands dirty!) Highly accountable and visionary in nature, it is the Copywriting Lead's responsibility to lead with innovation and inspired ideas, delivering excitement and passion to each and every client experience.
Job Responsibilities
Client Work:

  • Create guidelines, define copy style/tone of voice, source and manage (qualified) writers and editors from our proprietary network of freelancers
  • Meticulously track multiple copywriting projects across various timelines, industries, and client engagements
  • Research a broad range of subjects to create specialized copy for a wide array of B2B and B2C verticals
  • Thoroughly review, assess and edit copy created by freelancers and/or junior team members to ensure accuracy and consistency
  • Confirm content/copy meets both Hawke Media's and each client's individual standards as well as voice & style guides
  • Work closely with internal departments (i.e., design, strategy, SEO, sales and marketing) to develop, produce, package and deliver content


Channel Development:

  • Custom scoping with sales team and client engagement recommendations
  • Assist sales with organizing relevant training sessions
  • Prioritize and optimize client retention
  • Provide clients with professional work quality and management
  • Assist with navigating and mitigating client issues


Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, marketing, communications, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years copywriting experience (for brands) with strong writing and editing background
  • At least 2 years of project management experience (at the brand or agency level preferred)


Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to think creatively and brainstorm out-of-the-box content solutions that support business objectives and address client's needs
  • Experience writing copy for multiple formats (e.g., website content, blogs, infographics, print collateral, brand books, style guides.)
  • Experience working with freelancers, making assignments, tracking, providing feedback, and managing invoices for payment
  • Ability to balance several projects at once while working in a deadline-driven environment
  • Efficient, accurate, organized, dependable and detail-oriented
  • Flexibility with rapidly changing priorities and customer needs
  • Understanding of specific copywriting best practices for websites and e-commerce
  • Familiarity with basic SEO concepts, including the role copy plays in a site's organic search traffic
  • Self-starter with strong interpersonal skills and experience collaborating in a team environment
  • Proficient understanding of the digital marketing space


Computer/Software/Application Proficiency:

  • Solid Google Suite, Microsoft Office Skills, data management, PowerPoint, and Excel experience needed
  • Proficiency in various tools: Google Analytics and AP style (SEMrush a plus)
