Desmos Classroom, a division of Amplify Education, is on a mission to help every student learn math - and love learning math. Tens of millions of students and teachers around the world enjoy our Common Core, standards-aligned math curriculum, which blends both paper and digital tasks to support social classrooms, invite mathematical creativity, and evoke wonder.
We're looking for a contract copy editor who is adept at improving clarity, style, and voice and who can perform editorial production tasks (such as making copies of manuscripts, checking for alignment across our content, and ensuring a cohesive user experience). This copy editor will also join our team in learning about systemic inequity in education, and how we can attend to the needs of marginalized and excluded communities in order to build engaging and effective lessons that support all students.
This role is a great fit for you if you enjoy fine-tuning details and are an advocate for using language that is elegant, concise, and easy to understand. This is a part-time temporary role which will offer 0-15 hours of work per week, with the potential to turn into a full-time position.
Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with other copy editors in editing existing and/or new lessons to make the language clearer, friendlier, and more concise.
  • Support our content team in setting up manuscripts and copy/pasting content where needed.
  • Perform quality assurance checks to ensure content adheres to style guidelines.
  • Work with our copy editors in maintaining our style guides, making improvements when necessary.
  • Impress everyone with your razor-sharp editing skills!


Basic Qualifications:

  • Editing expertise in print and/or digital media.
  • Ability to apply established style guidelines consistently.
  • Ability to work across a variety of styles and types of content.
  • Ability to work with different authors and edit for different audiences.
  • Familiarity with content management platforms, Google Docs, and Adobe.
  • Ability to perform detail-oriented checks.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style.
  • 2+ years copy editing experience.
  • Degree in English Language Arts, Social Sciences, or equivalent

Compensation:
The hourly rate range for this role is $40-$45.
